Man, I REALLY don't enjoy Tracy Yardley's way of drawing Rock. He looks too "cartoony", for the lack of a better word.

To be fair adaptions don't need to strictly follow canon or else it would get limiting fast.

Of course, to some limits depending on the writers, publisher and consultants but it's the same reason why in most crossovers they forget about power scaling (since Ryu would get destroyed by most X-men and Marvel characters) for the convenience of the plot.
