Dreamcast Was the Dreamcast the best gaming console ever made?

I think this is a subjective question. For me there is no contest, Dreamcast is the best console of all time. I get that the PS2 was the "better system", but I actually like the Dreamcast library a lot more. Also, nothing will beat the feeling of the first night I played PSO with people or all the nights I spent chatting with people on Dreamarena and being able to click ads and have a "mini Internet experience", it was just magical.

PSO was an amazing online game, and for a console with such a short life, the library was incredible. I only wonder what would have happened if it lasted 3 more years. We probably missed a lot of very good games. It only lacked in strategy games. I actually bought a PS2 after the Dreamcast and was dissapointed for some reason, but FFX was amazing too. I just liked the DC more. The VMU, the feeling of having an arcade machine at your house, it was just the (almost) perfect console for me. I still play with friends from that era.

I do think think I'm the first person to note this parallel, but I just wanted to bring up that in a way, the Dreamcast was like the evolved form of the N64. 4 contoller slots put an emphasis on party games but the DC had next Gen fidelity and online multiplayer in mind way early on for consoles. I know it happened before, but the DC really tried to make it a streamlined and household concept. It really was an awesome system. It was ahead of its time in concept and is still a blast to play. Nonetheless, it just didn't have the same potential as the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube on a raw technological level. Nonetheless, I still think the online ambitions were still very forward thinking and probably ahead of the PS2 and Gamecube at least. Which is pretty damn impressive.

I'm kicking half a dozen of the consoles around right now, modding them.
I don't think it was even the best Sega console, let alone best console ever made.
A lot of the library is shit that didn't age well.

The best thing about it was being where to go to get a few popular PS1 & N64 3rd party games with performance enhancements. Stuff like Street Fighter Alpha 3, Tony Hawk, Resident Evil 2 and 3, Soul Reaver, Rayman 2, V8 2nd Offense.

It could have lasted another year or two if Sega had money to burn on publishing, but it was cooked and wide open to piracy by the end of production.

i always said dreamcast should have released games up until maybe 05/06

Doubt it. 2003 at the latest.

A 4/5 year run would be pretty standard and ward off the whole failure angle. They could have hit it and wound down production. The shitty media would have spun their tainted downplaying of the brand.

Sega was broke and piracy was launching on it though. It would have lost money and killed them.
