Wolverine had that in common with Joker. It was always far more interesting to keep his origin story obscured, which ultimately is pretty easy in the land of comic books (where few absolutes exist).

I do think most fictional characters with an unknown past are at their best when that part of their story is left to the reader's / watcher's / player's imagination. It lets us establish our own motivations and backstories, which really lets us make those characters our own and form attachments to them in our own unique ways.

Even if they aren't my own creations, nobody can make me think or feel a certain way about characters in media - I'll decide that for myself. When new backstory details about a character come to light (especially characters who have been around for generations) and I am suddenly told exactly what happened when... I dunno.

Headcanon is a powerful thing. And you're never wrong for believing exactly what you want to believe regarding fictional characters. Somebody else may have created them, but you are free to interpret the information presented to you and draw your own conclusions any way you see fit!

On-topic, I felt the initial Origins run was OK. But it was badly dated by repeated use of the word, "turd." Really cemented the fact that it was written and released in the late 90s / early 00s era - and not in a good way

I also didn't care for how they expanded the story after House of M, where Wolverine suddenly got all his memories back and went off on his own to track down the people he remembered from his past. It felt soooooo cheap. And that was also right around the time I bounced off comics and, so far, haven't looked back

So, did House of M serve any purpose? I didn't know that's where the monthly issues of Origins started.

The original Origin run was a limited six-issue series, which I believe is the TPB that is pictured at the start of this thread. I believe that was originally intended to be the end of it, but, you know, comics gonna comic

Yes, there were additional monthly issues a few years later. And House of M was, in my opinion, very well done! One of my favorite limited series in all of X-Men. Well worth a read... except for the fact that it didn't stick.

I loved the overall concept of Scarlet Witch losing control of her powers, to the point that her very existence was a threat to the entire fabric of reality. And her idea to appease everyone by giving them what she thought they wanted the most was a solid use of a well-known sci-fi trope. And the way it ended, with her saying, eff it, "No more mutants," was such a mic-drop!

It blew my mind that Marvel was willing to essentially nullify the X-Men, and I was excited to see how the books would continue in this timeline with the de-powered teams. But - much like superhero deaths in comics - that decision wasn't permanent. Slowly but surely, mutants' powers started coming back. And before long, it was almost like House of M never even happened.

Booo! BOOOOOOOOOO!! I gave up. I'd already been jerked around so much by the comics industry, with, for example, Superman "dying," only to be brought back, that I just refused to go through it all again.

Why make decisions like that, if you're just going to roll them back in a few months? Jerks

Average people today are still too afraid to show any interest in this stuff outside of what everybody else externally seems to like. I was talking about it in another thread, but it seems like with media today. Especially these Marvel movies, it almost has to be somewhat of a joke, or people feel uncomfortable with liking it. Or at least that's what it seems like to me. I have people my age that still continue to tell me I should grow up and stop liking the things I like.

Respectfully, no, I won't stop. All the stuff I'm into is too fire to just drop cold turkey. I'd be miserable. I got Autism mane I gotta have some type of hyperfixation of the month.

Isn't it weird how every time they make another Wolverine prequel he looks older and more muscular than the last movie? Almost like he's aging in reverse.
