So, since we were just talking about the release of DoW1: Definitive Edition, they drop this on us. A whole new Dawn of War game! Being made by the devs who brought us Iron Harvest, it's a new look at the RTS series, aiming to be a spiritual successor to the first game, with some aspects from the second one, and wary of the failings of the third. Here's the announcement trailer and some preview words on it:

I am personally pretty hyped for it. Iron Harvest was a competent game, and the gameplay they showed looks promising. If they are able to deliver on the expected level of quality and Polish, it will also be a pretty good game, even if it does not dethrone the older titles.

I hope its a proper RTS with base building and not that moba garbage that was DoW3

Same I want a proper RTS and not squad based boring games. Either a proper RTS and im okey if they make like Company of hoeres which still have some base building.

I've been burned too often with RTS that try to "modernize RTS gameplay" over the past decade or so to just blindly trust in them.
I personally found Iron Harvest kind of boring and a bit of a waste of some fantastic art design, but even so I'm definitely very interested in spite of it all.

Dawn of War 1 and its many campaigns is one of my favourite RTS games ever alongside AoE 1 and 2, as well as Starcraft and Warcraft 3 and while I thought DoW2 was really quite good, I've been hoping and waiting for a game that continues DoW1's style for ages now.
(CoH sadly doesn't scratch the same itch for me)

Funny how they jumped straight from 2 to 4 though!
Makes you wonder what a theoretical DoW3 might have looked like! I'm sure it would have been just swell, shame we never got it!

Nice, they're making a new one. I liked Iron Harvest (wasn't my favorite RTS but it's certainly good), it'll be cool to see them do a take on 40K. Only quibble I have thus far is Orkz, Space Marines and Necrons seem to be the only factions thus far, though I see what looks to be a Techpriest so maybe we'll get the Adeptus Mechanicus as a faction too. That'd be sweet, I've wanted to play as them and the Dark Mechanicus in DoW. Three is fine, but four is the sweet spot for the first release. Hopefully there's enough differences in the playstyles of each faction that they all feel different enough and good to play, like in Ultimate Apocalypse or something. I really enjoyed the Orkz and Necrons (and the Dark Eldar and Imperial Guard, but they don't seem to be in DoWIV yet) in Ultimate Apocalypse, they were each very unique and fun to play as.

I can feel the hype overtaking me already... it is a good pain!

I believe Adeptus Mechanicus has already been confirmed. People are also pretty certain the Imperial Guard will be (launch) DLC.

(Also also, I would genuinely be flabbergasted if Chaos doesn't show up in some capacity as well - Mechanicus pre-DLC and Armageddon are the only 40K games I can think of that don't involve them in at least some capacity. Usually as the third act true villains, shock of all shockers.
I assume they'll downplay them in the leadup to release and reveal them as some sort of "surprise" down the line.)

Considering there is ALWAYS a third act true villain that gets involved, there's a good chance we'll see the return of Eldar or Chaos. Interesting speculation that Imperial Guard is coming as early DLC? Wouldn't surprise me, since they showed some Guardsmen in the gameplay.

But yeah, four factions so far: Blood Ravens space marines, Orks, Necrons and Mechanicus. As sort of two pairs of rivals.

I want to believe, but I was fooled once.

From what I can see from people that could actually play it, it seems like a worthy successor, like a true evolution of the idea and not an adaptation for modern audiences.

I will keep a close eye on it.

Game is perfect.....Lets see what they make of

looks interesting but let's wait to see...

Pretty sure they'll add all other factions in DLC later.

Hope that we can have for once a warhammer 40k game with every main faction included at least ( dow1 nearly had everything but missing tyrannids )
