Virtua Fighter Thread

I've played them all, but the first 3 were only really playing through arcade mode.

When 4 came out I played with a group of friends and REALLY got into it. Now it's one of my favourite game series. Best fighting game series out there IMO.

My first VF game was actually the Sega Genesis VF2 game. I had a Sega Channel at the time, so that's how I was able to experience it. I missed out on the 32X port of VF1, but eventually I did get a Saturn with VF2. Shortly after I got VF1 and I honestly enjoy that more than VF2, mostly for the music and how amazingly good it is.

HOW DID I MISS MY PEOPLE!?

I’m a more recent VF head, but I’ve fallen totally in love with VF 2 and now VF 3tb. The best battles in Virtua Fighter feel like an equal bout between two martial artists with different skill sets.

Also, I saw one of those older SEGAPrize plushes at a used game store near Phoenix, Arizona. It was Lion from VF Kids. That thing was $3 lmao. Get dunked on, Lion. Nobody loves you.

My first contact with VF was with the VF2 port on my sister´s genesis, then I played VF4 vanilla on PS2 but didn´t like it that much, although I really like the UI and the menu´s music.

I can appreciate this franchise better now, I love how realistic the character´s movements are, it shows how much love the devs put into these games. Maybe I´ll try VF4 EVO soon, I think I´ll like it this time.

This cover is incredibly hard. I will say, I don’t know why it’s Akira and Dural. In the lore, one of the only facts I know, is that Dural is the cybernetically enhanced mother of Kage. I need to freshen up on VF lore (from the OVA and the mangas), because I want to know what Akira’s place in all of this is.

Akira's the mascot/lead so he just naturally has to be on the cover. There's barely any story in VF but he's the main character in the anime too.

This. If I didn't like VF so much, I'd probably say what they were going for with Akira is the "we have Streetfighter at home" frontman of the series ::linkmouthcover

That's kind of what happened. At first Virtua Fighter didn't have any traditional Japanese martial artist - if you've played Fighters Megamix, you know there was a canned character named Shiba/Siba instead. But they felt that they had to include one, so Akira is based on the same archetype design-wise as Ryu (which goes back at least to the anime Karate Master from the '70s). The main difference is that they gave Akira a unusual fighting style, Baji Quan (aka Hakkyokuken), which is based on tackles and individual power moves, so he's actually the most technical character in the game (contrary to Ryu and Ken style shotos who are usually the easiest to play as).

These are some legitimately fun facts! Thanks

Virtua Fighter aka the proto Tekken?

Jokes aside I liked how uncanny Dural was compared to many final bosses in fighting games.

it was the first 6th gen console and they wanted to show off how shiny and cool Dural looked in the newest latest graphics.

Dural kinda reminds me of Lady Armanoid and Cristal Boy/Bowie from the Cobra manga.

But I would still prefer her with her low poly look which had that great aesthetic

Ive been playing more VF5 REVO in the past month and got significantly better at it. Its rather easy for me to understand and pick up on things. First time I played against my gf I managed to go 10 to 9 against her and have only gotten better at it with the last set being 10 to 1. She actually plays fighting games and been playing them a lot longer than me and yet I've managed to stay ahead of her. Despite Aoi being one of the more technical characters, I actually gel with her quite well. I will admit, the parry stance she has is pretty damn strong.

Honestly, among all the Virtua Fighter games I've played, is the 1 (Arcade, Sega Model 1), 2 (Mega Drive/Genesis although it wasn't the best way to play the classic), Animation (Game Gear/Master System), 4 (Arcade, Naomi 2), 4 Evolution (Arcade & PS2).

4 is great! If you can emulate it, I also recommend 3tb. Also, the largest active community is for 5 REVO.

Also, 2 is my beloved, but I know that’s me being me.

The Virtua Fighter 4 Vanilla, Evolution and Final Tuned are emulable in Flycast but at the cost that it asks for double the requirements to emulate the Naomi 2 although I played the original and the Evolution and they are fine but it gets difficult as you progress in the game so the furthest I could go is up to the 7th level after several attempts and until I gave up but on the PS2 I was able to pass it from start to finish even though it took me fewer tries.

All that’s very fair. I want to try 4 Evo then I can!

I tried 4 EVO for a bit, and damn!!!, it´s so awesome!!!!
I can´t put my thoughts into words, the game is just so fricking good!!
There comes a point with VF when you start playing and you’re like “I don’t know if I like this. This is kinda stiff.”

And then you play a little more.
And then you get to the point where you start MOVING.
And you practically ascend because you realize how much you can do and you start getting into these really tense even matches against the AI.

And you come to this thread or some other VF forum to join all the other people who’ve seen the light.
Virtua Fighter is the greatest.
