Not even joking one bit. Although it may have started 10 years ago as a funny meme of sort with Floral Shoppe by Machintosh Plus in 2011 and the infamous リサフランク420 / 現代のコンピュー, the world wasn't the same, and it wasn't the same even for me.

The music that transcended this subgenre of electronic music, with it's infinite samples and their way of introducing themselves to new listeners was way ahead of its time. Certain albums even went ahead to become mainstream, to the point where the works of Blank Banshee have been recognised worldwide for their incredible fusion and blend of trap music along with the luscious waves of vaporwave, leading to the birth of vaportrap.

As time went by, and as I grew older, along with my tastes, I guess I went into a flourishing of some sorts, where my tastes led me to discover more underground artists, that further shaped me. And that is mostly why I find the vaporwave genre magic in that aspect, at least for me. You see, I was a huge metalhead when I started highschool. I just listened to that stuff through and through, and I basically went through all the stages a metalhead would go to. Cornering oneself to just the genre, exploring the small varieties, trying to be as brutal as possible... and then going ahead to just listening to whatever comes to mind (CALIFORNIA GIRLS, WE'RE UNFORGETTABLE). This shift of exploring new genres only happened with these two genres, and those are metal and vaporwave. I do listen to almost everything nowadays, I don't have the same tastes as I used to have before, but I never delved that deep into pop, or into reggae, or even jazz. But just these two genres? Oh yes, yes indeed pal.

Nothing made me scratch my brain tho as hard as vaporwave when it comes to hidden gems that made me legit cry and bowl my eyes out, thinking about the beauty of such songs that could exist, or that even went ahead to just make me drift into places of my mind that I didn't know could exist. It was truly an experience. And what I'm trying to say here is... that as long as a song, an album, or a motif is laying in your head, and it bounces from time to time, remember that that music isn't dead.

Completely resonate, as a child to teenager who was dead-set through his “every music except classical and old is bad”, Vaporwave really opened up my head to the vast reaches of music.

Vaporwave is an incredible genre that’s overall done wonders for the Internet music scene, so much of my taste now wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Ramona or DDS.

Beautiful read. It was Vocaloid for me, but your story resonates quite a bit with me and my experiences as well.
I used to think that shit was so cringy until I listened to Wowaka ( God rest his soul ) and now I’m a foam-finger holding fan.

DDS is one of the coolest concepts when it comes to vaporwave. Although I don't listen to them, I akin them to the greatness of Ecco Jams and the works that Daniel Lopatin did.

As for Vocaloids, the works of Kikuo are my favourite!

Remember hearing Macintosh Plus on a "Satisfying" compilation and couldn't help but be drawn to find the source and later the genre. Can recognize most of these compilations in the playlist. Macross 82-99's SAILORWAVE was such a banger. Highly recommend. Most recent one i've listened to too many times to count now is Webinar™ - w w w . d e e p d i v e . c o m by Dream Corp.
Peak comfy! ::coffee::cool

Vaporwave is amazing.
Its incredible visuals and unique aesthetic have influenced a wide range of genres beyond music, making it a truly great genre.

I personally love the derivative genre, Future Funk.
I'm happy that old music from my home country has been remixed and appreciated worldwide,
but at the same time, I feel foolish and deeply regret not realizing its greatness sooner.

if you're into vaporwave I definitely recommend checking out vcr-classique! I've been pretty much obsessed with this artist over the past few months, it's some of my all time favorite vapor and I've listened to the genre a good amount

This is a fan made compilation that I keep coming back to but pretty much anything vcr-classique put out is worth checking out

Vaporwave will always be a genre that reasonates with me. There's something really charming about its style and the unique way it remixes media that I love, like some sense of nostalgia and relaxation.

I even made this playlist a few years ago that I listen to when I want to chill.

I remember listening to Saint Pepsi and other vaporwave artists of the time and just drifting into another dimension, my ears were not prepared for the sheer awesomeness.
I suggest you the work of Luxury Elite as well if you want the same type of stuff as Saint Pepsi!

Webinar is a goated ass album that everyone should listen to at least once in their life!

I never saw anyone saying anything like this so I'll.
I absolutely hate vaporwave, and it's not a personal taste. The first time I listened to it I had the worst night of my life, it hurted my ears to the point I got too agitated to do anything (I remember searching for more after seconds because it was the online "hype" back then and it only got worse). The sounds completely makes me feel off, bad and unwell as a whole. I can't listen to it for more than ten seconds, It's like eplepsy but in my ears.
So basically, even purple being my favorite color, I even avoid anything related to its aesthetic because I feel a bad feeling only by remembering how the sounds are.

Love how the music gives out vibes of old school nostalgia when things used to be simpler and the games had fun and unique designs back in either the 80's or 90s.

I was there from the very beginning, once blank banshee and saint pepsi made vaporwave mainstream I left, It wasn't the same after that, lost it's meaning to me.

Hmmm a lot of the Vaporwave or other similar music sounds so 80's.... Which is good.

One of my favorite artists is Scandroid. Check it out :)

Scandroid is so cool! But I do think that his music is much more synthwave and retrowave, not typically vaporwave... but he's a great artist!
