Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (PS2)

I've heard this game is an emulation nightmare, and that it crashes left and right due to an anti-cheat called GameGuard that issues false positives. Is this true? And if so, does anyone know where to get a rom that has the GameGuard patched out? I want to play this game, but it would suck to get 20 hours in just for the anti-cheat to ruin my gameplay. (I don't plan on cheating, just afraid the emulation will give a false positive)

Edit- About the anti-cheat, apparently once it kicks in you're screwed and it locks you out, forcing you to start over. Even the backup saves before the false positive happens gets axed.

apparently you can use something called "Maori-Jigglypuff's Overhaul" pnach file in PCSX2 that disables the anti cheat function that causes it
ive put about 10 hours into the game so far and i had no idea this could happen XD

Yeah it used to be a nightmare to emulate but the current version of PCSX2 has all the workarounds and its pretty playable.

Enjoy - Valkyrie Profile 2 is one of the best JRPGs ever made. VP1 and 2 make up probably the most tight and well-crafted duology I've seen in any games. Playing those back to back several years ago is one of the best experiences I've had with gaming.

Even so, if you would be backing up your memory card to a different location as a regular basis, even if the game initiates the self-destruct anti-cheat thingie, it only would corrupt the current memory card, not the backed up.

I've played this game back in 2017 through emulation and I've never had any saves deleted. I don't know if that aspect of it is true or if its some type of urban legend. What does happen is that in certain parts of the game some of the graphics rendering become corrupted. But if you download the latest build of PCSX2 it should not be an issue.

VP2 anti-cheat was said that it only affects the ability to save the game once it kicks in. Never heard of corruption or anything close like Soul Calibur 3 that can have some side effects

But just to be safe, play it making backups. Also i remember how much of a pain in the ass was this game back then that the "safe" cheat codes needed a very long master code just to bypass the protection

For reference, i 100% the game back then and started to mess with codes the second run

Only after i removed the master code is where the game refused to save and it was fixed by just adding the master code or just plain dont use cheats

Played till completion a earlier this year and had no problems using the latest PCSX2 and never had problem with anti-cheat.

Actualy, I didn't even know it had a anti-cheat till now.

Only problem I had was a red tint and slight frame drops on the very first forrest map, and some disfoucusing on in-game cutscenes but aside from that, the game ran 100% smoothly

Awesome game and one of my favorites. It can be a bit obtuse with its mechanics but after you get used to it, you gonna love it.
