Tactical RPGs are a hit or miss for me; I got this game because it was crazy cheap (like 20 cents in US currency) and made by Sega. Any good or bad things you can tell me about it? Or things I should know before playing it? THank yallll

Don't be afraid to reset a mission to better strategise, there a lot, A LOT of bs "last second change of objective" moments, so if it seems you'll fail the mission don't hesitate to start over knowing what's ahead of you, so save frequently!

I have played this game before, so let me explain:
It's basically Fire Emblem but World War II, but Unlike Fire Emblem, you can move the characters freely instead of a square grid like in most Tactical RPGs.
Each character has a stamina bar that depletes as you move them.
If it runs out, you can't move the character anymore and have to end your turn.
Throughout each turn, you have a certain amount of CP ("Command Points") with each action costing a different amount of CP.
If you run out of CP, You have to end your turn.
And also, just like what @Hikari.EXE just said, don't be afraid to reset a mission if you think you're biting more than you can chew.
And also, it's pretty fun!
You shouldn't miss out on the sequels, as well!

VC was the first strategy RPG to do something I and a lot of people used to fantasize about - let you control the attack sequences in real-time. So it's basically turn-based in the planning stage, but more action-y in the attack phase. That's what's really made it stand out at the time, though I've heard the story and whatnot was good too. I've only dabbled with it (I wasn't gaming much anymore when it came out) but it's a series I really want to get into one day.

Its more like XCOM than Fire Emblem, but the first game is really good. It is one of my favorite PS3 games, up there with Demon Souls. I love the painterly cel shaded style of the graphics that was in vouge in the late 2000s. I really enjoyed the first one. The story was a really interesting fictional take on WW1/WW2. I have a hard time getting into the sequels, since I feel like they lost the historical grounding for the plot and went harder into the tropes.

VC is pretty great if you like Strategy Games with a slight Action twist. I remember Scout's being quite strong with their high movement.

Not this nonsense again. The localization is perfectly fine, even if it might not be completely accurate to the Japanese version. The voice acting is pretty good for video game standards.

No JP-ENG localization will be 100% "accurate" to the original Japanese. Even the best localizers need to take some liberties, but that's no reason for localizers to just do whatever the hell they want. It's objectively bad, dude. You can look into it if you want.

By the way:
When I said the game was like Fire Emblem I didn't mean in terms of gameplay, but in terms of how you can watch characters interact with each other when not in a battle, like in Fire Emblem: Awakening.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 is the best example of that.

It's objectively bad, dude. You can look into it if you want.

That's nonsense. It is high quality English prose. The voice acting is excellent. The plot is understandable. I don't give a crap if they changed the jokes for an American audience. People who obsess about those things need to get a life.

You used the words objectively bad without providing any evidence and linking to a youtuber with no credibility or expertise. Seems like you are the one without standards. Provide evidence for your claims and then we can talk. The days of accepting random youtubers claims as fact are over.

On topic, it's an interesting game, but it has a strange kind of strategy. Where most games require a safe approach and moving units together, the best way to clear most Valkyria maps is to be extremely aggressive with single units pushing rapidly.

Yeah, if you use the best story unit (you know who) and just rush ahead with her, you can just clear maps by just capturing the flag. Really breaks the balance of the game lol.

Fair enough. All I can say is that I found the English script to be well done, without glaring errors and the story was easy to follow. On the surface it was a good script, even if it may not perfectly align with the Japanese one. If there was some important omission that prevents the player from grasping something from the story, I didn't notice it. And that's all I personally care about.

As a game, its decent, it gets you in the action, the requisites for A/S ranking in most missions is just low turn count, very easy to exploit if you know your units well, having a Valkyria in your team makes the missions a joke (mostly a thing in the first game). It favors skirmishing over big attacks (which its the only realistic thing it got).

1 and 4 are fun, 2 its hit or miss, 3 is ok, we don't talk about Revolution.

I would like something in the same vein, purely with tanks and no infantry.
