This is a pretty minor thing, but I figured I'd go ahead and bring it up.

Next to every user's post is the icon showing their current level, which has a subtle progress bar at the bottom.

Upon first glance, my first assumption is that this bar shows the progress of the user towards reaching the next level, in my case level 2. However, I think it instead is a progress bar showing how close you are to the highest possible level (if it's not, then I'm way off on this). In my case, I'm about halfway to level 2, but the bar is only a fraction of the way filled.

I'm not sure if it's something that's changeable on the server's end, but personally I think it would be nice to see at a glance how close I am to the next forum tier, as right now the progress bar status doesn't mean much to me.

Indeed, I genuinely concur with this perspective, it would indeed be more logical.
Considering that this is a retro gaming platform, it would make sense for the progression bar to ascend similarly to how it does in RPGs or other experience-based games of yore.
It is somewhat peculiar that it does not function in that manner. I must admit, I haven't given it much thought myself. However, you raise a valid point @aquova

Pondering the issue further, I have reached a conclusion: integrating XP-like bars into the site’s aesthetic could indeed be a fitting enhancement. However, consider this analogy: when small modifications are implemented, they often inadvertently cause unintended consequences. For example, when users began seeing the "Username icon" appended before or after their names, it was a simple script or line of code that, despite its simplicity, disrupted a fundamental aspect of the forum, the usernames themselves. These changes were unobtrusive and unlikely to cause major issues.

Yet, introducing a bar that gauges posts as XP could potentially lead to significant disruptions. It may not be as straightforward or harmless as initially envisioned, and thus, the concept may warrant reconsideration

It is rather enjoyable, I must admit. However, may I suggest a small, additional flourish?
While not a major or essential element, it could serve as an engaging detail for users.
On the left-hand side, there is a subtle outline of a person, adorably depicted!

Is there any possibility that it could represent as a staff? or perhaps be a hat or sword?
You get the idea, something indicative of a character class. For instance, in the context of the Writers' Guild, it could feature a quill, and so forth.

Would it be feasible to select a few classes and perhaps assign different icons or symbols for each user? Such a feature could add an element of personalization and fun.

And indeed, I am aware that the Writers' Guild already possesses a quill; using that as an example

Have you guys noticed the new "Level Up In" profile field that tells you how many messages left until you reach a new level? It's the neatest thing!
even cooler
I just wish we could make the bar designed a bit more pixelated and retro, but that is just being obnoxious lol
