Usage of the "Follow" function

I tried searching a detailed explanation of it using the search function and manually and I did not find it.

For example, what exactly does it do?
It links you to the followed user content, some feed or something like that?

What if I want to just bookmark some users just to remember them, and not to announce anything to them or for me?

It shows you what people you follow do around the board through your own feed. It's not automatic like on social media, but it IS customizable all the same.

It's actually kinda funny because it really does show you everything, down to individual likes given by those you follow XD

That's what I thought.
How to customize it? The feed option in Privacy Settings? If it's that, it's not too granular.

Also could be nice to have an option to bookmark users to remember them only (without bookmarking Profile pages on the browser), I don't like to announce that I'm following someone nor I really use the feed option.

I don't think there's an option to bookmark people without outright following them, nor a way for you to hide doing so.

I'll have to get back to you on the customization bit because it's been a while.

Actually... I found a workaround: you CAN bookmark individual posts from people and have access to them that way. It's awkward, but seems to be closer to what you want.

The idea isn't to hide me, but to not annoy anyone or seeing what does not interest me.
Just remember people on this vast site.

Thank you for the workaround. But it would be really useful for everyone if bookmarking of users unrelated to following was added to the site.
If it's too much trouble, not the scope, or impossible to do it, I'll understand.
Just thinking.

Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very well-versed on Xenforo things.

The "follow" option was always kind of awkward, too.

It can have other effects too.
Some members limit some functionalities such as accessing to their profile pages, only to users who they follow.

As you said, it's a bit odd to tie these functionalities to follow feature... but it is what it is.

I personally never use follow for its usage anyway... but to show my appreciation.
I think most of users do the same, though i can't speak for everyone.
