I got my original Xbox out of storage after 8 years only find that the fans sounded horrendous. Got a 3D printed CPU fan mount from Stone Age Gamer and put in a Noctua fan. It's better, but still need to replace my makeshift exhaust fan from 10 years ago.
Yes, my motherboard is dusty and needs a good cleaning, but excited to get this guy back in action.

The Xecuter mod chip, SATA hard drive mod and awful exhast fan replacement all date back to 2005.

That looks great, its going to be awesome! Mine is just soft modded but it gets the job done. My next is getting that SATA drive in there. Damn XBox weighs a ton!

I should probably replace the thermal paste while I have it taken apart. My new exhaust fan is supposed to arrive on Sunday.

That's always a great idea. I did the same about a month ago. I try to remember to always replace my thermal past when I'm cleaning things.

I have a mini PC with batocera on it for retro gaming and I was having fan problems. After days of experimenting and replace thermals turns out it was a dead clock battery. Go figure lol

ah, the fresh asbestos smell of an opened xbox...

still need to check my old one. got it sent in to a person i'm no longer in contact with and they modded it out with an hdd + ram. might be one of those fated 1.0 dashboards with the battery issues though...

Just make sure to check that clock capacitor. As well as the other caps. Ones made during the great capacitor plague have ruined many a motherboard.

I Assume you know to get rid of the clock capacitor <if you haven't already>
and Kudos yo, i REALLY need to Mod my og xbox again <i never got around to it, after i bought a 360>

BEST OF LUCK! Keep these babies in good working order and you have yourself an awesome system full of TRULY hidden gems. As the thread has said though, look out for old computer components suffering from age, especially the capacitors, as the XBox was produced during a horrible “capacitor plague” where a bunch of low quality parts flooded the market.
