Update Released for Windows 10 and 11 is Damaging SSDs and HDDs!

I know not everyone has multiple PCs to use, but this is why my one and only Windows 10 PC has never been online, period, since the initial setup. Anything I need to put on it can be done via flash drive or external SSD. If I need a driver updated, I'll get the update myself. I don't think that machine has even been online since the initial setup. Best of luck to everyone.

I hope your drives are safe, though maybe back up anything important now in small batches while things are going smoothly.
Then your only issue might be secure boot certificate the Windows using. The last one will end in June 2026 and therefore afterwards will make the PC that has secure boot enabled be like "dude I don't trust you so I won't let you join the boot process" so drivers can't be run during boot and will prevent Windows from booting. To prevent this you have 4 options:

1- Let the PC get the new Windows update
2- Disable secure boot
3- Make BIOS time stuck before June 2026
4- Use the Windows on a PC that has no support for secure boot

The new update extends the certificate for like 15 years that kinda means Microsoft only cares to make Windows 10 officially usable until like 2036 lol. They use secure boot stuff to sell you Windows 11 and new PCs with "security" excuse when the best security a person will ever need is not downloading and running 2 MB GTA 5 serial exe or some shit lolol. In the end no security is impossible to crack and cracking is always bothersome so they just changing method to make it bothersome, they ain't preventing it because they can't.

Damn! And I thought they had learned their lesson after that last Windows 7 fix had rendered computers unable to shut down.

And they still think that replacing their QA team with AI was the right idea? XD
AI is basically free labor "well technically free" ofc any company will replace people. I mean shitty worthless humans cuts in their Yacht and cocaine buying so must replace them so they don´t have to pay salary.

Companies want you to buy buy buy buy and consume more trash for as much money as possible.

Sadly Microsoft has a strangle hold on people me. I would switch to Linux in a heart beat if it was simple and not time consuming. Yes it´s not that simple I have games started playing with 100s of hours put in to them changing to Linux I must change allot of things because Linux does not have the same file and map structures.

SO all my save file under my documents need to be back upped and moved or some may not even work as they may use another save file system in Linux.

Going from Win 10 to 11 is easy I can just upgrade and keep all files as is and go about my day if I could just switch to Linux with out the fear of losing save files or having to back up and move and waste hours getting it all to work. I would gone linux faster than you can say bullshit.

So sadly no matter how much I come to hate windows im stuck until some one could come up with a soultion that´s not a pain in the ass.

Im a gamer first and foremost I want it easy. Im a computer nerd that can fix PCs and build PC´s but that´s hardware im a total moron when it comes to software. Sure I can fix some one Windows PC becuse I used it so much I know how Windows work but that´s about it.

I hate being stuck with microshit but sadly nothing much to do than suck it up.

Regardless of the software, i recommend against updating immediately when a new update is released.
I think it's always better to wait a week or two and see how it's received before updating.

There are some firewall programs that can cut the access of programs to internet, and completely prevent automatic updates.
They can even stop windows components from accessing internet, including auto-update.
I usually wait until it physically won't let me shut down without updating. Several weeks, I think.

you can try AtlasOS, ReviOS, ggOS, FoxOS, KernelOS, xOS, GhostSpectre, NexusOS, KirbyOS, imOS
Yes, I've tried a few of these myself, but there's definitely issues that they bring to the table for someone who isn't into tinkering with things too much.

I was running ReviOS on my personal system for a while, but got tired of technical issues that were cropping up while I was trying to just use my computer.

Does wonders for old hardware if you're wanting to keep an older system going with Windows specifically though, for sure!

That's how long they're supporting LTSC, so that definitely checks out haha.

I guess 15 years from now we'll all be downloading the newest version of Windows BrainOS to our Neuralink XPs anyways ::coolmines
