Anyone excited for a film on the horizon? I found an article covering some of the schedule (admittedly mostly English speaking releases, apologies) , one of them pique anyone's interest?

I had no idea there was a new Naked Gun movie coming, with Liam Neeson no less! The guys got some real deadpan comedy chops, and he feels like he could be a perfect fit for the Leslie Nielson role.

The Mickey 17 looks interesting. Robert Pattinson is actually a cool actor, i liked his role in Tenet. It seems that there will be a live action version of how to train your dragon, seems like dreamworks will follow Disney's footsteps and remake their stuff with live action, how great :/

OK, this is technically coming out this year, (it'll still be in theatres in 2025) but I just saw a trailer for the new Nosferatu and I think it looks pretty interesting. I imagine it's going to be much more of a straightforward modern horror movie, with jump scares and cultural symbolism a-plenty, but... they can't fuck that story up, can they? It's Nosferatu! Please let this be good.

The trailer looks like they're at least trying for some sense of German expressionism, but whether or not they've succeeded is something still to be decided. I actually think they should have made the whole movie black-and-white, but they're doing it in colour, so I fear that it will look like every other horror movie nowadays. WE'LL SEE...

By the same token, another 2024 movie that I probably

won't get to see until 2025 is the new Looney Tunes movie, The Day the Earth Blew Up. Unbelievably, this movie is finished and has already aired overseas, and it was supposed to get released here this year, but bloody Warner Bros. didn't want to distribute it! They didn't want to distribute a movie about the Looney Tunes. Whoever's in charge over there needs my foot up their bottoms ASAP.

I have no idea if this will be any good or not, but I've heard good things and, if nothing else, the artwork looks slightly more interesting than the other recent Looney Tunes shows. WE'LL SEE... I love the Looney Tunes characters, and really want them to remain relevant in pop culture, but I don't think modern creators really understand their appeal.

Now, from ATenderLad's list:
  1. Wolfman is my #1 interest. I saw the new Invisible Man movie whenever that came out, and it was OK, but it had a lot of problems. I'd really like to see what they're doing with Wolfman, though, because I have the sneaky suspicion that it's going to be very similar to the Teen Wolf TV series from the late 2000s. Prove me wrong, Blumhouse!
  2. I like the concept of September 5th a lot, but it doesn't seem like the kind of thing I'd go to a theatre for. I'll watch this when it hits the streaming services so I can eat chips and pee often.
  3. I normally wouldn't watch a Disney live-action movie with a gun to my head, but Lilo & Stitch has two things going for it: 1. I love the original way more than the other movies they've adapted, and 2. the director also did 2022's Marcel the Shell with Shoes on, which I thought was brilliant. I guess we'll see? I'd like this one to be good.
  4. Elio looks like absolute poo-poo, and Pixar hasn't made a good movie in about 15 years. I might pirate this one, because I like aliens. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
  5. I really, really hope the new Fantastic Four is as lighthearted and comedic as the 2000s-era movies, because I liked those (well, the first one), but no one else did. But the 2010s one I just remembered existed was bad, so they'll probably try to do the opposite of that, right? I can hope. 😢
  6. I'm intrigued by the premise of Animal Friends, and the cast looks really good. I hope it isn't a bunch of unfunny bollocks, though it may very well be. I'll catch a trailer when it comes out.
  7. I was interested in The Bride! for roughly one millisecond before I saw the words "radical social movement" in the description. The original movie isn't great either, so unless this one completely subverts my expectations and she actually turns out to be a bible-thumping Republican, I'M OUT!!!!!!!
  8. We'll see about Micheal. We'll see. This sounds like one of those movies that could go down as being really, really bad.
And that's all I'm interested in! An OK lineup, I think? I still have a lot to catch up on from 2024, which I thought was a very good year for movies. I hope Hollywood is back on track – the past ten years have been awful, but I have hope things will be good again.

Porker Luis’s movie is gonna be good but will never top his story in Tails Gets Trolled

He really is, definitely was the best acting in Tenet, or at least tied with Aaron Taylor-Johnson's cameo as a Call of Duty character.

Great answers, let me reply to a few points;

-A couple of my favorite critics have had lavish praise for Nosferatu, and Eggers is such an interesting director, here's hoping they don't let you down.

-Count me in for the Looney Tunes Renaissance!

-Wolf Man could be fun, but hopefully it's not just doubling down on Invisible Man, like "Insert Universal Monster with a contemporary twist". It'd be a shame if Leigh Whannel fell into formula.

...and I'd love to believe Fantastic Four will be a fresh new direction for Marvel movies, but after thirty-odd films or whatever it's been, I'm not holding my breath. The first movie from the 2000's really was pretty good, save for the boring take on Doctor Doom.

Oh my god, here's hoping! I love the original Nosferatu (and all the classic German Expressionist movies), and I trust Eggers in general, but I was sole person on the planet who didn't like The Lighthouse, so I'm bracing myself for this one.

"Insert Universal Monster with a contemporary twist".
I'm personally OK with this formula, but what I really want to see is a greater emphasis on building likeable, engaging, well-rounded characters. Invisible Man had a very interesting premise and world, but the protagonist and antagonist in it were flat and predictable to the point of caricature. If that was just baby steps for the first of these movies, fine, but I want to make sure that they aren't falling back on the recognizability of these IPs to make up for lacking storytelling.

I thought Invisible Man actually had a really cool, realistic take on what that story would look like in the modern day, but that's what kind of makes me raise an eyebrow at Wolf Man. We've had a LOT of "modern" werewolf stories over the past 40 years, and I'm not quite sure of where they can take that premise beyond what's already been done. I'm more than willing, though, and I really hope the movie is good.

save for the boring take on Doctor Doom.
Movies never get him right. I want them to go as hammy and silly as possible, preferably accentuated with no less than ten million dollars' worth of SFX.

I mean I respect it for what it is, but I'd be lying if I said it resonated with me, not a huge fan either.

Looks like the first trailer just dropped.

Doctor Doom is the character most closely tied to Stan Lee-speak, and as much I love that style and the character, saying it out loud summons your childhood bully to pants you in front of your crush.

Here's hoping Robert Downey Jr *really* earns that paycheck, and delivers lines like "All hope lies with Doom." with gusto.

man i know im setting myself up for disappointment here but i do hope that 28 years later is hopefully decent. alex garland's recent work were duds (especially civil war) but since danny boyle is back as a co-writer/director, im carefully optimistic.

I liked Civil War quite a bit but my main takeaway from that movie was that Wagner Moura is actually kinda hot when he's not playing Pablo Escobar.

I'm cautiously optimistic about 28 years later and Nosferatu as well. Definitely two films that will get me in the theatre seats. I love movies (according to my imdb profile I've seen more than 4000...) but my theatre attendance has been dwindling in recent years. I'm glad I got to see the substance on the big screen though and in an unexpected twist beetlejuice 2 was really charming so I enter the next year with a little more hope for the future of cinemas.
