OK, this is technically coming out this year, (it'll still be in theatres in 2025) but I just saw a trailer for the new
Nosferatu and I think it looks pretty interesting. I imagine it's going to be much more of a straightforward modern horror movie, with jump scares and cultural symbolism a-plenty, but... they can't fuck that story up, can they? It's Nosferatu! Please let this be good.
The trailer looks like they're at least trying for some sense of German expressionism, but whether or not they've succeeded is something still to be decided. I actually think they should have made the whole movie black-and-white, but they're doing it in colour, so I fear that it will look like every other horror movie nowadays. WE'LL SEE...
By the same token, another 2024 movie that I probably
won't get to see until 2025 is the new Looney Tunes movie,
The Day the Earth Blew Up. Unbelievably, this movie is finished and has already aired overseas, and it was
supposed to get released here this year, but bloody Warner Bros. didn't want to distribute it! They didn't want to distribute a movie about the
Looney Tunes. Whoever's in charge over there needs my foot up their bottoms ASAP.
I have no idea if this will be any good or not, but I've heard good things and, if nothing else, the artwork looks slightly more interesting than the other recent Looney Tunes shows. WE'LL SEE... I love the Looney Tunes characters, and really want them to remain relevant in pop culture, but I don't think modern creators really understand their appeal.
Now, from ATenderLad's list:
- Wolfman is my #1 interest. I saw the new Invisible Man movie whenever that came out, and it was OK, but it had a lot of problems. I'd really like to see what they're doing with Wolfman, though, because I have the sneaky suspicion that it's going to be very similar to the Teen Wolf TV series from the late 2000s. Prove me wrong, Blumhouse!
- I like the concept of September 5th a lot, but it doesn't seem like the kind of thing I'd go to a theatre for. I'll watch this when it hits the streaming services so I can eat chips and pee often.
- I normally wouldn't watch a Disney live-action movie with a gun to my head, but Lilo & Stitch has two things going for it: 1. I love the original way more than the other movies they've adapted, and 2. the director also did 2022's Marcel the Shell with Shoes on, which I thought was brilliant. I guess we'll see? I'd like this one to be good.
- Elio looks like absolute poo-poo, and Pixar hasn't made a good movie in about 15 years. I might pirate this one, because I like aliens. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
- I really, really hope the new Fantastic Four is as lighthearted and comedic as the 2000s-era movies, because I liked those (well, the first one), but no one else did. But the 2010s one I just remembered existed was bad, so they'll probably try to do the opposite of that, right? I can hope.
- I'm intrigued by the premise of Animal Friends, and the cast looks really good. I hope it isn't a bunch of unfunny bollocks, though it may very well be. I'll catch a trailer when it comes out.
- I was interested in The Bride! for roughly one millisecond before I saw the words "radical social movement" in the description. The original movie isn't great either, so unless this one completely subverts my expectations and she actually turns out to be a bible-thumping Republican, I'M OUT!!!!!!!
- We'll see about Micheal. We'll see. This sounds like one of those movies that could go down as being really, really bad.
And that's all I'm interested in! An OK lineup, I think? I still have a lot to catch up on from 2024, which I thought was a very good year for movies. I hope Hollywood is back on track – the past ten years have been awful, but I have hope things will be good again.
