Underrated Cartoons?

Not nearly as preachy or saccharine as the title sequence would imply! Surprisingly a lot of cool pop culture references (Doom 2 caught me off guard, for instance!). Plot revolves around a guardian angel doggo in mortal form, and either:
  • a) trying to be a proper guardian angel on missions, and fucking it up,
  • b) trying to get into the good graces of his living girlfriend dog, and fucking it up, or...
  • c) getting into hijinks with his fellow guardian-angel-in-the-flesh / platonic life partner, a weiner dog, and... well, you get it.

EXOSQUAD (1993)
Possibly the only Western animation that touched on concepts such as the horrors of war, characters being killed off left and right, PTSD, and gray morality. Unfortunately these very same concepts are why Universal didn't renew the show for a 3rd season as they were pushing for more shows to emulate the successful Disney formula. If you have a Peacock subscription I highly recommend checking it out!

Oggy & The Cockroaches
Ugly Americans
Xavier Renegade Angel (not underrated but not as popular as it should be especially in current meme climate)

Did you know, the creators of Avatar TLA made a spiritual successor, The Dragon Prince?

But Netflix being Netflix, did a lousy job promoting it, and a 3 year wait, between season 3 and 4, didn't help. Plus, the show got a really bad pacing in arc 2, and needlessly left loose threads, at the end. Suggesting they MIGHT greenlight arc 3.

The first 3 seasons were heading in the right direction, though.

Avatar-related content that isn't absolute shit? I gotta watch it.

The older shorter Hanna Barbara cartoons.
Space Ghost, Herculoids, Jana of the Jungle, Fantastic Four.
Even without Adult Swim, those shows still entertain me and stand on their own.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit 😢

Disney, you gave an EMPLOYEE to get his rights back, FRIGGIN USE IT

Man this show was super dark tonewise. And it was by the same studio that did transformers animated. They breathed a new zanyness into the characters and provide us with such entertaining questions as:
"Will Shaggy be able to prioritise having a girlfriend over having a dog?"
Or
"What if Fred is very very very obsessed with making traps for bad guys?"
And
"What if Scooby Doo but HP Lovecraft elements?"

I don't know if anyone talks about it, but I did like watching some Life with Louie years ago, which I had some episodes of.

I know that I had these episodes on VHS tape.

Remember This Show Life with Louie on Fox Kids? (1994–1998) : r/90s_kid

It manages to make Goosebumps look as Carebears, is basically a "Kid horror anthology of mean kids learning their lessons" but here they almost never learn it and flatout DIE in the process (An episode involves a girl being boiled alive because she rejected eating a lobster)

One of the most unique looking cartoons to come out of the 90s, and is far more obscure than it should be. Wasn't alive when it was airing originally but I caught reruns on a local kids channel and I loved it. Canadian cartoons have a really bad reputation, but that's just because Americans like me never got the really cool ones like Stickin' Around and Detentionaire, and were stuck with shows like Supernoobs (blegh). Apparently Fox Kids aired it in the 90s but had to edit it so bad some episodes were only 6 minutes long. Insane

Well this on my favorites cartoon Madeline Little Lulu and Pippi Longstockings

Not much anymore, if any.
But Invader Zim is still, my alltime Favorite Cartoon. Always loved anything jhonen vasquez did back in the Day.

His J.T.H.M. Comics where such weird and deranged to me as a Teenager.
Ah, Really wish they had finished up the few episodes they had Scripts fully done for.

I still can't believe they got away with the episode where Zim harvests the organs of the children. No matter how many times I re-watch the series
