Does anyone here like Twisted Metal? I played Twisted Metal Black a lot on the PS2, the Paint It Black song fit well with this game.

Huge fan of the series- specifically the Singletrac/Incog/EatSleepPlay entries. The gameplay is so solid, especially TM2 which is near-perfectly balanced and not overly complicated. You wouldn't imagine it'd have much to offer in the story/aesthetics department, and yet that is 100% the aspect that keeps me coming back. The games have this apocalyptic vibe, but it's somehow always more fun than dreadful, even in the darker entries like Black and the 2012 one. You're partially taking glee in everything around you breaking, catching on fire and blowing up. Pedestrians are just in the game to be bystanders. You don't kill people for points-they are simply in your way. The contestants are fighting for their dreams, and they'd all kill the world to have their impossible wish granted by Calyspso in the end. The wishes backfiring in the endings feel less like karmic retribution and more like a reminder that even the victorious driver isn't immune to the entropy taking everything. Like, it's an upsetting vibe, but compelling, like wasabi peas.

I like the show and am excited for the new season, but the one aspect I don't think they understood about the series at all is that apocalyptic tone- because they made it post-apocalyptic. The damage is done already- the world is not crumbling in that rendition, it's already rubble. It absolves the characters by turning their violence into a cruel necessity of life, whereas it was my belief that watching the various tournament contestants become further and further away from redemption while they seek their impossible ambitions and dreams was the point.

If they do make a new one, I'm hoping for something in line with David Jaffe's original concept of a huge number of combatants in a larger interconnected world. I know the rash of undercooked Royale style games just sent to marketplaces to die makes this prospect unappealing (I say this as a grieving Rumbleverse player.) But considering that TM1, TM Black 2 and the 2012 game all were meant to be one big interconnected map at one point in their development, I really want to see that idea realized. Even if it is just Player Unknown's Battlegrounds but with cars and serial killers or whatever, I want to play it (But only if I get to make a wish after achieving victory royale)

I loved Twisted Metal Black. But Carmaggedon always holds a special place in my heart for car murder games. With they'd make a new one

Twisted Metal 2 was my most played of the series I couldn't get enough of vehicle combat games at the time, went onto play Vigilante 8, Critical Depth, Twisted Metal III, Rogue Trip, Twisted Metal (1995). Mr. Grimm was my choice. Even gave Star Wars: Demolition a chance lol. Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense is another good one.

I'm working on it.
