Recently i was searching for old style dungeon crawlers and i found out that Turbografx-16/CD have quite a few, and since the PSP has ports for it, i looked around to see if it was possible for me to convert one of those, so i would remove emulation completely with a more normal inputs system that would work better. To my surprise with a guide i was able to make essentially what is a port of Dragon Knight & Graffiti for the PSP like an official psp release that exist out there.

Now i was wondering since there aren't many games converted like that, are people interested to play Turbografx-16/CD on their PSP converted that way? I ask because i wanted to make more of those with this method, and also the controls scheme seems pretty easy, and the game seem to work fine on PPSSPP, i still need to test it on PSP hardware but i'm positive it will work fine as well. I might need help to make the images for like the psp XMB but that would be a later thing since for now it will use whatever official release game you use for it.

I don't think there's much of a point in converting them if you're just going to play them on PPSSPP but if they look fine on a real PSP without the screen being weirdly stretched or aggressively letterboxed then I'm sure that there will be interest from PSP owners.

that's neat, but I don't really see the benefit over just playing them through a PCE emulator that runs on the PSP. Seems like a lot of work for very little pay off.

Of course i will do this mainly because you can play it on real hardware i only tested it on PPSSPP because i wanted to be sure it worked and the emulator can play those games. Also you can resize the screen as well it's built in, you can change have 3 screen sizes with R: stretched, adjusted to the screen ( basically it fill the screen vertically, and not horizontally so it's not stretched anymore) and pixel perfect which i imagine it's the original resolution which while it's small it look pretty fine. I also just tested it on PSP hardware and it work fine it does also look really good on the PSP compared to the ppsspp which is to be expected.

The PCE emulators on psp don't work really well and i don't mean the emulator per se, but it's more that the controls don't work really well because of the nature of the system. With this method essentially you remove any problem with controls because those are just build in with the game. Unless i'm the only one that has problems with controls in the PCE emulators i tried on my psp.

I see, I just looked it up. It's kind of like the Virtual Console injections on the Wii and 3DS. I've not messed with PCE emulation on the PSP but in the case of the VC injections they did run a lot better than most homebrew emulation options.

PC Engine CD is one of the hardest things to get running on a PSP. The PSP HUGO emulator works perfect for Hu-Card based TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine games but to use it with CD games you need to use the application TurboRip (an app that was originally created by the team who translated the PC Engine CD version of Ys IV and can be found on their Ys forum) to create an ISO/MP3/TOC copy of the game to run through it. But while it runs fine the music and audio timing is messed up since the TOC file doesn't load the the audio as correctly as if it used a cuesheet. I don't know why they didn't develop the emulator to use .cue cuesheets like PicoDrive does when loading Sega CD games in ISO/MP3/cue format (that's a nice way to play Sega CD games using your PSP, you can use TurboRip to create ISO/MP3/cue copies of games and load them with the version of PicoDrive for PSP) The only other way to play PC Engine CD games is by using the official PSN eboot versions of one of the games that were availble on PSN back then (like Ys Book 1 and 2) and inject a different game into the eboot to play them. This method is very complicated and not all games work with it but it runs better than in PSP HUGO

I used this method and i was surprised it worked well, i dare to say it run without any issue, also keep in mind that Dragon Knight & Graffiti is a CD version so usually it demand more on emulators (you need to have the psp overclocked at 333 mhz) while i can assume the injected version will work fine at 222 mhz (it does work well at 333 so far).

Yeah picodrive is amazing, i also used Turborip and tried psp HUGO (and the other emulators with a clean iso of the game) hence why i wanted another method to play those games.
Oh yeah it's a bit complicated to inject the game into another one but it's honestly fun, and since i found that there were some english releases i also might try to use one of those because if an idea i have is right i don't need to translate the XBM menu portion of the injection (which would be really hard to extract only that part of the game release).
