Tun Shi Tian Di III (Taiwan) SEGA Genesis

Translation Credits: "This patch just translates Destiny of an Emperor III from Traditional Chinese characters (繁體字) to Simplified (简体字) as is used by China today. The patch is done by swapping fonts. Because a different font is used for menus, the menus are still in Traditional characters making this patch incomplete." Released By: D Patch Version: 0.9 Date: 23 July 2004 Source: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/966

I was about to say this. The anime of Romance of the Three Kingdoms was pretty famous in the 90's. Apart from the Famicom RPGs and this one, there are also two arcade beat em up games based in the manga, "Dynasty Wars".

The story seems to be even stranger than I thought, because this isn't some bootleg trying to ride the coattails of the Destiny of an Emperor series, but instead was a fan effort to make a Destiny of an Emperor III that was more in line with I and II when Capcom deviated from their RPG gameplay into Romance of the Three Kingdoms style gameplay for the actual Destiny of an Emperor III.

Yeah, I remember Destiny of an Emperor I and II.

It's possible that this game, Tun Shi Tian Di III, could have been released at some point, in a different release, as "Destiny of an Emperor III" but it's not clear for me if the original title Tūnshí Tiāndì III (吞食天地III) actually means that. If we take Barver Battle Saga: Tai Kong Zhan Shi (太空戰士 魔法戰士) for example, it was reprinted/rereleased in different moments by different companies and different countries with different names, some of them being "Final Fantasy", as if it was part of the famous franchise. I wonder, then, if "Destiny of an Emperor III" wasn't simply one of those many different release names, where they put it with the same title of the NES games that inspired it.

I could be wrong in those guessings too, of course, but it seems to be certain that this game here definitely wasn't made by who made "Destiny of an Emperor I" and "II" (Capcom) and it doesn't continue that story as a direct sequel.

Destiny of an Emperor I and II actually do exist and are real games, they were for the NES and also were RPGs, based on a manga under the Japanese name Tenchi wo Kurau.

Aren't Tenchi Wo Kurau I and II from a completely different company (Capcom) and adaptations of a Manga with the same name? I couldn't find much info about it, but at least in the BootlegGames Wiki they say "the game's story is based on "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and the "Tenchi o Kurau" series (but unrelated of story)" and to me it sounds more like as if it draws inspiration from Tenchi Wo Kurau instead of trying to be a sequel.

If you have a different source telling about that connection I'd like to put that in the description, tho.

Lookin' good, would play it in English. I can sense some Samurai Spirits RPG vibes in here. The latter is a great game and I'm very grateful for all the hard work translating it. In fact, for every translation that is and to repo sites such as RGT/CDR. Great stuff!

Google AI and Wikipedia say the correct spelling would be "Tūnshí Tiāndì". Does anybody knows if it's correct in chinese?
