Yeah, I've known a few people to be equally over-obsessed with celebrities/sports stars. I hesitate to say "real people" just because you can never really know those people either. A good portion of what people may like about them could just be marketing, or manufactured by PR companies.People have tons of posters of sport stars or character posters around in their room. I don't think it's needed to be a fan to have figurines and other goodies but they do what they want with their money.
I'm here to offer a challenge
Society has many other issues that are more problematic than 2D characters.Yes, of course, everyone can do what they want, but the problem arises when the community grows to the point where it has a real influence on how society functions. This is an increasingly common phenomenon, especially with Gen Z, who take refuge in virtual gf.
Never meet your heroes because it's an idealised version that only exists in fans' head.Yeah, I've known a few people to be equally over-obsessed with celebrities/sports stars. That sort of obsession isn't unique to any one fandom. It kinda comes with the territory of fandom in the first place, with people taking their fandom to varying extremes.

Easy there, that's my grandpa's waifuBefore this thread devolves into something like "weebs are f-ing losers lol" I kinda like that there were pinups drawn on planes.

They did that as kind of a moral booster, I think, and the art was top notch for the time. Before this thread devolves into something like "weebs are f-ing losers lol" I kinda like that there were pinups drawn on planes.

In this particular case, anime girls are certainly not the cause of this situation, but rather a factor contributing to the transition toward a different type of relationship. And it's not going to get better with time.Society has many other issues that are more problematic than 2D characters.
Is this really a generational thing? Because it's easy to say "ah, those younglings and their weird habits". Maybe it's correlating but not the causality of that.
Yeah, even having a pic of a singer was giving courage. They did that as kind of a moral booster, I think, and the art was top notch for the time.
That was some real honest to god art talent.
Yeah like Easter and Eostre. Something that has a holiday around itYeah, even having a pic of a singer was giving courage.
Of course the context now is wildly different but I think that it's not new to have the worship of someone even if fictional.
I could even go further in the past and talk about fertility goddesses.
I mean... if you really want to go back, the Venus of Hohle Fels is like 40,000 years old as I remember.Yeah, even having a pic of a singer was giving courage.

The difference with your grandfather is that he actually smash because it was easier back then, while the otaku who deal with anime girls have nothing at all. Now you understand the gap that exists between these periods.Easy there, that's my grandpa's waifu
Except the Caveman that started this threadI mean... if you really want to go back, the Venus of Hohle Fels is like 40,000 years old as I remember.
I may be wrong about the age, but you get my point. Female forms and statues aren't something that's only been around for a few thousand years. They've been with the human race as long as we could create anything that was vaguely human looking.
Even Caveman where Weebs XD
Fair enough.Except the Caveman that started this thread
They worshipped the goddess of fertility to reap benefits in their romantic relationships and to comply with religious rites. You're completely off base, man. They didn't have any fantasies about these sculptures. The difference with today is that otaku believe in unconditional love for their waifus. It's pure COPE and delusional.Yeah, even having a pic of a singer was giving courage.

It is a sign of low IQ to refuse to engage in debate and take refuge in shared opinions. You can do whatever you want broFair enough.
What say.... we all just ignore him?
Let's go on with our conversation and just ignore him. No replies, no acknowledgments.... Nothing.
Maybe it will slither its way back to Twitter, Facebook, or whatever echo chamber it came from.
