I'm probably about to replay Tropico 3 or 4 and figured I'd make a thread. What do you think of Tropico? Have you ever played one?

Sure, played only the 4th game just because it was a gift from a friend because it's one of his favorite game. However on paper the game was fun but most of the "story mode" or the "main thing" was just a tutorial mission that forces you to complete missions in every level while I would want to decide what I wanna do with this city/county meself. Eventually I was too bored.

Now I even reread the review I wrote for that game back then, it seems younger me disliked the game for way more reasons than I remember. Younger me disliked the game for it's "too childish", he insulted developers for this rubbish game by calling them childish people "who doesn't know how to develop a game" and then the most disliked thing in the game he found was how characters talk too much and it's more like a visual novel and not really a city/country managing game. After many years I still agree then, we are not changed much. Also, the only positive aspect he found about the game is it drops Steam trading card lol. Thanks me friend for free wallet money lolol.

Yeah i played first 5
Tropico 4 might be the best one, since it's basically 3 but with many improvements, and 3 was really good
5 feels like downgrade with many simplifications
1 is super charming with that amazing early 2000's pre rendered graphics
2 is the most forgettable for me, since i literally can't remember anything about it, i think it was something about pirates
and i never played 6

Yeah, I definitely liked Tropico 4 the most out of the ones I've played. 5 and 6 for what little time I spent with them just felt too simplified and cartoony. And I just couldn't get over the voice acting or portrait style switches.

I find them too complex for my small brain

Honestly out of the city builder type games I've played they feel like the easier ones. I think the only things that ever really caught me out with Tropico 4 for example are when the game requires something specific that doesn't happen automatically or intuitively to progress in a story mission, like importing raw materials for producing something in a factory.

I have Tropico on mobile which is pretty fun, and Tropico 5 and 6 on Playstation. I think 5 is my favorite of the three.

A trailer for Tropico 7 dropped a while back, ngl I'm hyped for it.

I used to play Tropico 4 religiously back in the day. I haven't played any of the newer ones though.
