You encountered it at one point all of us certainly had a toxic encounter with another player in a game we played online we all know how it looks like and how it feels.

However there is something to toxicity in games where trash talking each other and even sometimes throwing slurs at each other creates for memroable and even fun moments.....is toxicity that harmful? Did it ever made you reach a point where you quit a game because of it?

Did you engage in toxic behavior yourself? Did you rage at someone during a multi-player game? I certainly did i also done my fair share of trolling in games ruining games people in lobbies were waiting to fill up for 2 hours straight!

Whats your opinion on toxicity? I find it necessary to keep a certain balance into the game community if everyone was so nice it will become mundane and boring but if everyone was so agitated and toxic it would also become boring and will push away newcomers what do you think...

I think overall I take it very well *throws monitor off the window*
Generally I tend to disable taunts if possible, so I can't even do them, for example in rocket league I remove "What a save", since it doesn't help anyone.
On a Battle Royale I play there's a "vomit" emote, I purposely don't bind it cos It's pretty aggressive. Sometimes I fight pretty well but lose and I get that done to me, I don't really think I deserve it, I just feel the other guy is an asshole. I do keep a "thumbs down" for when I kill people that taunted me before, or are known assholes.
The missus on the other hand....she uses the vomit on everything that moves, even on people who are clueless and you can tell they are new to the game....she's ruthless. ::cirnoshrug

I guess not everyone receives incoming toxicity the same or reacts to it the same , some games are generally more laid-back so taunts can feel out of place at times.

Well that's unexpected usually guys are the ones that do this not the other way around.

I'll post the obligatory image

That image aside, I do enjoy trash talking to a certain extent, more in a jokey way rather than an unironic "skill issue" way. Although I never do it in online games with strangers.

Now for something more serious:
10 years ago I've seen a case of a woman entering a game and being bombarded with very derogatory jokes when she spoke via voice chat. This absolutely crosses the line for me.

I love receiving toxicity and people being salty online, but i don't try being toxic back, in fact i barely rage in videogames because losing is fun
I guess using too much bad imageboards since early age made me think people being toxic to me as funny as fuck instead of upsetting, but sometimes i'm just not in the mood of dealing with the antics of people online so i just disable any interaction in that game. I totally understand people getting upset by it tho, not everyone is a masochist like me up to deal with this kind of behavior and it's fine to block people or mute chat in general

Damn i seem to fit the wacky gamer.

Yeah i like toxicity when it's just slight banter.

That woman reminds me of that clip of a girl speaking in a CSGO lobby she got kicked out by vote a minute after gotta love and be proud of the CS community always keeping us CS fans at the peak when it comes to toxicity ::smug

Anonymity emboldens the mal-intent of cowards.
I see it.
I have thoughts.
I never engage.
I'll occasionally see trolls or turds act out and I'll become irked enough to discuss it in reality; say with friends and such.

But the thing about those kinds of people is they want... NEED that attention. The crave the engagement. That's how they're noticed. That's how their perception and fantasy of power and agency is fulfilled. And I ain't givin' it to em', ya know?
Most of these clutches would glue their eyes to their shoes if ever confronted about the way they conduct themselves online with strangers... and, in a way, that's also maybe why they're like that online.

I will say this; I don't consider it to be "toxic" to be in a group of peeps who understand and agree to the nuances (or lack thereof, lol) of a social engagement in a particular setting.
Example: Shit-talking friends/peeps you're familiar with during a (let's say) Unreal T match.
It's not "Toxic" if everyone is in on it.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. In the more competitive games like fighting, sports & battle games of any sort it's no harm. If you get offended by it, you remember the username & avoid playing him or her again.

I usually crack up when someone starts acting toxic towards me and sometimes make them more agitated to rage even more , or respond to them in a pretty mean and even personal way , one time me and my Egyptian friend were throwing legitimate slurs at each other like game ranger stuff man if you know you know......

You are wandering further along the road of online censorship. We have too much already. When it's finished we will be monitored and bashed for everything we do on the internet. Even the well behaved will feel nervous about saying anything.

i hate toxic people but i have learned to just mute and ignore... there are some cool interactions from time to time but if the voice chat is optional i turn that thing off most of the time uwu

Absolutely once it starts getting on someone nerves or a bunch of people start bullying a player it becomes less friendly and lighthearted and more legitimate harassment.

Yeah, I just don't understand how kids can't seem to log off when this starts to occur. That's all they have to do. Log off, even for a little while. The bullies will move on.

I don't follow you on this, friend.
Can I ask you to explain? 🙏
Not sure how I advocated for censorship here. 🤔

Absolutely! Sometimes when i see it i jump in to defend and stand with the vicitm , one time i had a friend he was some 40 year old dude who liked to play BFME custom map for WarCraft 3 , i usually played with him and went to the opposite team thank God i did because once his team starts losing he will start boiling and insulting his teammates i didnt mind it much first but it was evident this is his behavior every game , one game i was winning in (of course i was playing as humans i think it was rohan?) i was so done with his attitude i told him "YOU ARE THE REASON THEY LOSE" or something like that we got into a verbal fight where i constantly told him he is a dumbass noob that should get good and stop insulting his teammates , he banned me from his discord server ::eggmanlaugh

Players like this turn away newcomers and it's damaging especially in a game like WarCraft 3 with its lobby system.

Yikes!
At like 40-something though, too?!

"Anonymity emboldens the mal-intent of cowards."

That first sentence just made me think that, maybe you thought, we should do away with anonymity on the internet. Maybe that's not where you were coming from. If not, apologies.

Based, I do the same thing. Mostly because hearing people's voices takes away my immersion.

Thats what he claimed , he had surprisingly a rather high pitched voice.

He is just one bad apple in a sea of them called game ranger a third party online MP platform that allows you to host games even if said game MP isn't supported anymore.

One day i might find a screenshot to show you the shenanigans that go there.

Okay, I see where you're coming from. (y)

Nah, It was more a statement.
As in in the "instance of anonymity" can sometimes bring out the worst in otherwise sheepish-acting people. Repressed aggression, attention seeking, etc.

I'd like to go on record and say "Censorship is bogus", btw (y)
Not here for any of that noise.

I think groups mostly manage the problem themselves online. If you can create groups, guilds, etc.. on an online game, the leader or mods can kick out trouble and the members have a large choice of groups or guilds, if they feel unfairly treated.

There is literally no filter on GR reporting people never works.

Some insults like let's say the N word do get censored but there is workarounds , but even if it's censored people would pick up on what's being said.

The platform is dying and is bleeding players since 2019-2020 perhaps for the better.

I kinda like being a narc in WoW, which I guess can be viewed as toxic depending on who you ask.

For example, if people post dumb hateful throwaway shit in general or trade chat, I like to report it on a whim (even if it's not something that outright offends me specifically) because I know the automated system is really quick on the trigger to suspend people, so they kind of make their bed for themselves. I get one less dipshit spouting hateful comments in chat (even if it might be kind of banal), and they get to destroy their keyboard in a fit of rage for something they justifiably set themselves up for.
