Exactly, try to download a fresh Rom and load it, you shouldn't find your progress, this is the reason I gave up on PC-98 back in 2009, I wish I knew about this early enough before I built a Rom collection and played them a bit only to realize my progress had been saved and I can't start over or be bothered to search and redownload every game again.
If I ever figure out the mystery I'll definitely post the solution. What I figured out so far is that the system needs some type of a user disk to save to. On top of that I thought that mine was saving and it appears that it's not saving at all.

This is weird but I looked everywhere and can't figure out where the save folder is for Neko. I checked the time and date stamps on my rom files and no files have been touched. Retroarch save folder is empty. Yet these games both save and load. I've tested em. I know it works with dragon knight 2. I checked the BIOS folder and nothing has been changed. Save states save to the /states folder but where are the saves?

I dunno about other mods but for me I probably won't be sharing much PC-98 games in general, this was an exception because it's my personal favorite.

I have this issue with PC-98 games where progress is auto-written into the Rom itself which deems my Rom collection impractical to say the least, I dunno why this is the case or how to delete my progress, I had to redownload this Rom and make sure to create a copy before testing.

I might have to look up and redownload every game in my collection at some point which is far from ideal, there is one game in particular I may wanna redownload and share here later at some point, A Hard Day's Night, because it has a Sonic cameo, I made a youtube video a while ago 😅

Thank you for this! Works pretty much perfectly now.
You're welcome but I'm still trying to find better settings if I can. It seems like the CPU multiplier affects things more than the CPU type. I think the CPU type is just for instruction sets. It doesn't seem like Ram effects very much either maybe because those games were originally programmed to use a low amount of Ram anyway. I think the problem with the emulator is that there is no perfect setting for everything you just have to tinker around with them and make adjustments as needed.

Except this is the fourth instalment (least afaik).
That it is. The order is

1 Highly Responsive to Prayers (demo released 1996, fully released 1997)
2 Story of Eastern Wonderland (1997, same day as the previous game)
3 Phantasmagoria of Dim Dream (1997)
4 Lotus Land Story (1998)
5 Mystic Square (1998)
6 Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (2002)
7 Perfect Cherry Blossom (2003)
7.5 Immaterial and Missing Power (first spinoff and a fighting game, 2004)
8 Imperishable Night (2004, released before 7.5)
9 Phantasmagoria of Flower View (2005)
9.5 Shoot The Bullet (A spinoff that's a bullet hell but you don't shoot bullets, 2005)
10 Mountain of Faith (2007)
10.5 Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (2008)
11 Subterranean Animism (2008)
12 Undefined Fantastic Object (2009)
12.3 Hisoutensoku (the fighting game that everyone plays for Touhou, 2009)
12.5 Double Spoiler (2010)
12.8 Great Fairy Wars (Its a miniature mainline game just surrounding Cirno, 2010)
13 Ten Desires (2011)
13.5 Hopeless Masquerade (2013)
14 Double Dealing Character (2013)
14.3 Impossible Spell Card (2014)
14.5 Urban Land in Limbo (2015)
15 Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom (2015)
15.5 Antimony of Common Flowers (2017)
16 Hidden Star in Four Seasons (2017, released before above game)
16.5 Violet Detector (2018)
17 Wily Beast and Weakest Creature (2019)
17.5 Sunken Fossil World (only beat em up, 2021)
18 Unconnected Marketeers (2021, released before above)
18.5 100th Black Market (2022)
19 Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost (2023)
20 Fossilized Wonders (2025)

bold = fighting game
italic = misc spinoff
underline = mainline game that plays like a spinoff

Never expect to see Touhou games on this site
What a great way to end this year, despite the graduation of a vtuber

TSP + Knulli: black screen for a few seconds and then closes

Please if you can, upload all Touhou games english translations

I wonder if that's the fault of the emulator because I just looked inside my save folder and it's completely empty. If that's the case it might be a good idea to just keep a backup copy of everything. I'm going to start checking the time and date stamps on my files.
I doubt it's the fault if the emulator, this happens on both neko project 2 and retroarch, I wish I knew of this back when I downloaded a bunch of games and started messing and testing, by the time I found out about the save thing the site I got the games from was long gone and I just didn't have it in me to search and redownload every game I downloaded before, a bit of an unfortunate first impression with the system as I never had this situation with any other system before or since.

Will all Touhou games be uploaded to the site?

Touhou? Never heard of it.

No but for real I'm very happy to see Lotus Land Story here! I enjoy the PC-98 titles a lot

Awesome total bullet hell shooter! Ok I'm now permanently sold on PC 98 forever!

Okay to whomever can't get this to work... This is a full speed danmaku shooter. If you haven't configured your emulator hardware it will start off very sluggish and you won't be able to control it. I'll give some example changes I made but these settings are probably not perfect:

Cpu multiplier - change to 16
Ram size - change to 16
CPU feature - MMX pentium
Joypad dpad to mouse/keyboard/joypad mapping - change to Atari joypad

With these settings I get full speed or nearly full speed action and fully controllable. Keep in mind you may have to tweak these settings for other titles.
