In case you're interested,
I saw there is a tool for quickly translating PS1 games, DS & GBA games, and PC Engine games:

github.com

GitHub - eadmaster/ezrominject: Easy-to-use inplace text injector for ROM hacking.

Its AI-based, so if it works, it gives you an instant English translation
- very good for quickly making menu patches!

Or you can add your own AI translation yourself.

The only limit is, your English lines must not exceed the length of the original Japanese lines.

How to Use: https://github.com/eadmaster/ezrominject/wiki/Usage
FAQ: https://github.com/eadmaster/ezrominject/wiki/FAQs

And for PS1 and PCE games, it adds its own custom English letters to some games: https://github.com/eadmaster/ezrominject/wiki/BIOS-font-hacks

The author has already tried it on several games, and produced almost-ready translations here: https://github.com/eadmaster/ezrominject/wiki/Compatible-games

A lot of people, rightly so, don't like machine translation. But honestly, if its something quick and dirty just to make it playable, I think it is amazing. I mean, what is the difference between using something like this and using my phone to translate every line? Personally I think this tool is really impressive, supposing it can really deliver what it promised, if you had shown me this 20 years ago I would think that was some witchery, gnome magic, or works of the devil itself. I can imagine a near future where absolutely every retrogame will be translated.

hopefully somebody translates all the choro q games

Waiting for the DS/PSX Summon Night games anytime now 🥲

I mean, if it lets you change all that AI garbage text to something actually comprehensible afterwards without having to hack anything with 0 knowledge, thats neat.

yeah the text extraction might be useful if it works well

text injectors suck because sometimes English uses more characters than Japanese to communicate the same ideas. So sometimes you need to enlarge text windows or reorganize the UI. But it is better than nothing, I suppose.
