Hmm, my first answer would probably be Dissidia FF for the PSP. It's one of my favorite games, in general. It's a Final Fantasy crossover fighting game that doesn't play like anything else, it's totally unique, and it's such an insanely impressive game for what essentially is just a 20th anniversary tie-in game.
I also really like Dragon Quest Heroes 2. Unlike the first one which is a pretty uninspired musou game, the sequel has lots of unique systems, and feels more like a 3D action RPG. My only gripe is that it doesn't have my hero Yangus in the story mode...
There are probably more, but off the top of my tired head, those are my first two picks. (I promise I like more games than those two series!) There are tons I've never played but want to, like the DQ Monster games and the DQ Mystery Dungeon games.
As for your second question, this isn't really an obscure game at all, but I don't see the soundtrack brought up very often, but I definitely think it should be!
Unravel is inspired by the landscapes and nature very close to where I live, so it's a pretty special game for me, and the music is one of the best examples of swedish folk music being elevated into modern times (it also happens to be my mother's favorite game, and one of the few she's tried out herself.)
Fun fact: One of the composers were my younger brother's teacher back when he studied music!
My number one out of all of them is probably Yuna. She’s also most likely my favorite female video game character. I love her story arc and how she develops through the game. I like her a lot in X-2 too.
Wakka - He’s just a good friend and ally overall and extremely reliable and loyal, but is very religious and prejudiced towards Al Bhed, but he learns and grows out of his prejudices and becomes a better person for it when he comes to terms with his problems.
Zack - Even though he knows he’s fighting for the bad guys, he stays true to his friends to the very end, and ultimately becomes the hero he set out to be.
Tifa - I really like her strength of character, how she has to run around and play pretend for Cloud until it all breaks down, and then she remains by his and the party’s side anyways.
G’raha Tia - He’s the one main cast member from FF14 who can probably relate the most to the player character, and I think he’s far and away the most helpful and dependable one, aside from…
Krile (FF14) - The smartest character in FF14 by a million miles. Oftentimes she’s the only main cast member with a head on her shoulders. I also love her cute hood.
Steiner - Love the way he develops throughout the game. I like his character ”tagline” which was ”Dilemma - Having sworn fealty, must I spend my life in servitude?” and how it reflected on his choices throughout the game.
Tidus - Like most FF10 characters, I really like how they grow throughout the game. Tidus starts off as a spoiled celebrity but gets humbler, wiser and braver throughout the game. He and Yuna sort of absorb positive traits from each other during the story and I always really liked that.
I’m sure there are even more, but these are the ones I like the most off the top of my head!
Hey Tonberry! I have two questions related to the characters on your signature:
1. Could you tell us more about why Ampharos is one of your favorite Pokémon? Is there a fond memory you have of Ampharos in the games that has made it one of your favorites? Or do you like it mostly from a design standpoint? (It's certainly one of my favorites from Gen 2!)
2. What made you initially choose Ragnar as your previous profile picture? Is there a quality to the character that you resonated with?

I don’t remember exactly why it is my favorite, actually. A long time ago I would’ve said Hitmonlee, but I must’ve gotten bored of him.
In my playthroughs of GSC and HGSS (gen 2 is my favorite by a million miles), I always get an Ampharos and it kind of turned into my unofficial starter/protagonist. It’s cute, strong and dependable. Also has a gorgeous mega. It’s my number one cute Pokémon and I get it in every game I can (same for Scizor except for cool Pokémon instead)
I think Ragnar has a cool design, and the avatar popped really well since it was so colorful. I think his chapter in DQ4 is one of the better ones since it kinda feels like a mini-DQ1, and I like how he’s kind to monsters as well (at least to Healie).
I don’t like it myself, but I’m not against the idea of eating it. I like ”meat lover’s” style of pizza the most, myself!
I think anything goes for pizza (especially since it’s funny to heavily alter Italian food).
Hey Dude! I'm gonna get back to playing FF8 again soon and about to start disc 2. For a first time player. do you have any tips that aren't on the guides out there?
also do you have any action jrpg recommendations? any faves?

I’m sorry to say that I’ve never beaten Final Fantasy 8, as I’m not super fond of it. The furthest I’ve gotten is to (I think?) the dungeon after Irvine joins the party, and that save accidentally got wiped a bunch of years ago. Sowwy!
As for Action Jrpgs, Dark Souls 1 is one of my all time favorite games. I also have a soft spot for Kingdom Hearts 1 because I have huge nostalgia for it, even though it’s a pretty jank game (especially compared to its sequel)
Oh, and I’d probably say Monster Hunter too (my faves are FU, GU and Wilds), if that counts!
I would also say Nioh, but I haven’t really played it enough to have a substantial enough opinion on it other than that I think it’s fun and cool.
These are always fun because Swedish is extremely different from almost all Anglo pronunciation.
Tidus would be Tee-dus (which is also objectively correct)
Zidane would be what it sounds like how ”See Dan” comes out in English though I know that’s objectively incorrect. Zi-Dunn is what I should say since I’m usually a stickler for this stuff but I chalk this one up to childhood.
I'll never be able to use the "official" pronunciation of Tidus. With all the water themes in that game, I still can't believe they didn't go with "Tide"-us! But thats my native English speaking perspective showing.
Just excellent so far! I’ve been hanging out with my brothers together at the same place for the first time since February, and today me and two friends spent the entire day outside, just walking around enjoying the sunny weather. We unknowingly went to the park while there was a celebration for Philippines Indepence Day (apparently there are more Filipino people here than I knew) so there was real good energy all around.
