Anyone here tried the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer yet? Plays great
Though the hurdle i had to jump through several hoops being mainly messing with the audio output to get the engine sounds to play in 3rd person
Yeah, it's pretty awesome. No modern gaming BS like microtransactions, lootboxes or online crap. Simple purely single player experience like in the good old days. It's pretty faithful to the progression formula they had back in the Dreamcast/PS2 days with a few extras like the skill tree. I'm not too fond of cars being locked behind said skill tree but other than that it's a fine addition. I like how they streamlined most of the races by having a smooth transition between a battle and cruising instead of the results screen you had to mash through every single time in the old titles.
As for things I don't like. I was hoping for a behind-the-wheel camera. I can't say I use it particularly often in racing games but I always appreciate the attention to detail when it's there. Another thing is that from what I've heard, half the game just isn't there yet in any form. I know it's Early Access and they might add everything in later but I also know that many games are left perennially unfinished and abandoned in the EA limbo. Finally, the glitches. Some were funny like that one time a rival slammed into my rear so hard that my car got off the ground, sailed on his roof and got slammed into the ground behind him as he sped off toward victory. It almost looked like a suplex in wrestling. Got a chuckle out of me. Other glitches were less fun. One particularly nasty that happened to me was related to the tuning guy you can meet in one of the parking zones. I had just bought a new car and I figured I'd let him do his magic to make grinding for upgrade money easier. Turned out that for some reason the game wouldn't let me upgrade the part he tuned. I had to sell the car and get another one. That hurt.
All in all, great game but I'd wait until the full release if you want to pick it up.
I've got about four hours with it so far and I'm enjoying it. My main gripe so far is that it seems like half the rivals go diagonal into you right before you pass them, and if you just go straight it takes off about half of their life bar, but when you pull away from them, it kinda slingshots them ahead? It's been awhile since I played the earlier entries so maybe it's always been a thing the series does, but I sure don't remember it being so frequent if it were.
Other than that, digging it. My PC is old but it still runs it pretty well, and I'm looking forward to see what is added in the future. I see leaderboards in the menus and I can't say I care about that too much, but for now I'm good just zipping around the map.
the car handling is a lot tighter now compared to the looser handling of the older tiles like Zero or 3 and you can fine tune it where as older games you just mess with the slider to and the car still slides around whenever there's a turn
The payout system is new, less grindy than the older games for sure since you get a lot more now in just few races (granted if there are wanderers around)
But the game is still in early access and people already found unused Hondas and aero kits waiting to be (or not) implemented into the game, still wished that they used or made up names like they did in Zero to avoid licensing
Nice seeing highway racers return now that we got Night runners and Tokyo Xtreme Racer making rounds and filling the niche, the children yearns for cruising around expressways

I feel like they still use the old ai, for some odd reason they're still pretty bad at braking and turning corners full speed knowing the car they drive can handle the turn at that speed without oversteering or lose the racing line, hope that they look into this and solve the problem
And im hoping that Nagoya and Osaka makes a return along with a whole new expressway and thats about it... Or maybe they can help make the game modding friendly so people can add their cars and tracks and whatever into the game
Currently the game is about 7gbs (crazy to get a 7gb game in this economy, and it being on Unreal 5 too) and maybe by the time they get everything crammed into the game i hope its 10 gbs because games that takes barely any space on your hard drives are hard to come by nowadays besides indies are a treat

sad that we dont get to see or drive on the Yaesu inline of the inner route of C1 anymore after Zero
hope genki add it back using my 3000+ hours on microsoft paint or maybe through modding
I played it and only have missing a few bosses now. There is a point in the game where your current car is too weak with the available upgrades. And further progression in the perk tree is locked by beating bosses. But I enjoyed my time playing it it's not exactly like the old games, but you'll feel straight at home.
I"m still playing through the old PS2 Genki games lol. I'm really freaking hyped to play the new one, and it really REALLY seems like they nailed the translation to modern systems. I'll wait for the game to have more content to pick it up, I could maybe afford it right now, but I rather wait. Like I said, I haven't run out of stuff to do in the old ones yet.

I have a little more time with it, and finally beat the four named racers you gotta beat to unlock more of the perk tree. I failed a bunch, and I don't know gears and stuff to get maximum speed or whatever out of a car, so I sold both of my cars and bought the first Subaru (I forget the name, the default car is blue), and it was able to get the job done. I like it. I don't think I'm good at it in any way, but I'm having a good time and that's the main point.

If you dont know how or simply too scare of learning gear ratio (albeit it's rather simple) just tune only the final drive gear, the furthest to the right are for accelerating and to furthest left are for top speed

the tuner guy at the parking area are temporary upgrades only and sometimes the upgrades itself downgrade the amount of horsepowers your car can output too so lookout for his antics xD
I finished what is there, except for a few wanderers that don't seem to trigger racers even when you meet their conditions. I saw a "this is the end for now" screen, anyway. Will probably wait until they're 100% done to fully jump back in, and then do a new file. But getting to beat guys in a powered up version of my real car was pretty cool.
I've been curious about this one. Is it a remake or a modern continuation to the series? Also, is it still strictly a highway battle kind of deal or are there circuit races now?

I don't think it's intended to go beyond the freeways, though I guess being in early access means it's a moving target? As far as its place in the timeline, the characters you meet talk about older racers and events from x years ago, so even though I don't remember racer names from those older games, I assume it's the same timeline and this is the futuremost point.

It's a new entry but it's same old, same old really. Quite a few teams from the old games make a return. It's still strictly highway battles but there are races where you have to battle multiple rivals one after another or simultaneously. Cosmetic customization is greatly expanded if you're into that.

I think it's pretty good. I wish they expand the map with the 2 exits like in Import Tuner Challenge and the last section after the wangan (I can't remember the name, it was in TXR Zero).
It's really refreshing to have a simple racing arcade style game. I can't wait for Genki to finish it.
