I don't even know these games but their name alone makes what you said probably true because world is bigger than a land lol, so both games pretty much having the same name but their difference is one of them is "land" so it kinda means the whole point of the game is being the "less" version of the "world" one lol.

To me, Super Mario 3D Land feels more like a Predecessor of Super Mario 3D World than a lite version of the game.
