What did you think of this entry in the Wars series?

its pretty good. I like that the story is more grown up than the previous iterations of Advance Wars. The characters are pretty cool. Otherwise it is the same old Advance Wars gameplay that we all know and love.

I did not like it as a kid. I was a huge Advance Wars fan and it really seemed extremely cool, at first. The difficulty began to sharply ramp up though and I ultimately got stuck on a mission that was impossible for me to complete after a week of trying. I tried replaying it last year and the writing was significantly worse than I remembered, too. Very cool setting though.

The story is slightly altered depending if you're playing the US or PAL region version by the way.

As for the gameplay itself I still think that it's much better balanced than Dual Strike. Sorry for saying but "AW3" had too many issues regarding COs and how the game was sometimes hard for no reasons.

On the other hand I still think they should've dropped the "Advance" from the title since it's not related to any previous games from the GBA series.

I wouldn't have minded if they were both parallel series like Fire Emblem had separate timelines.

It was my first Advance Wars game & I loved it. Went it expecting Fire Emblem but got some different, which actually an extremely good thing! You can even Versus people online. Sure, I only managed to find like, 5-6 opponents at the time playing it... but the option is there!

Also has a kickass soundtrack but unfortunately never got a proper OST release, which is a damn shame! We're literally stuck with Nintendo DS rips... ::warcraft-skeleton

Absolutely, the soundtrack is really good.

I particularly like this song:

Shame, same with Ouendan and Elite Beat Agents.

Still, despite the DS quality compression it still sounds great.

Yeah DS quality is still pretty good all things considered, could almost argue it's part of the vibe.
Like using the DS Castelvanias for example if I had to choose between like, the DS compositions or the original ones, I'd choose DS 90% of the time.

Luckily most games did have proper OSTs but it's always random! Not NDS but Xenosaga Ep.2 also comes to mind (just gamerips). It's always the ones you want the most...

Ah, yes. I remember this one because i was confused with the art style and had the idea that this was a KoF spin-off featuring Kula and K' with Geese doing some war stuff

For the game itself, its hands down the best start for the Advance Wars since you have more "freedom" with the choices you can do on each map (some of the hardest maps in the other games are hard to get the best score unless you know very well what each units can do... and what the enemies will do if you do x thing wrong or right)

Also, is better to play this one before Dual Strike. Unless you want to make this one look very "simple" compared to the other

Lmao, when I first played KoF '02 Kula was familiar to me.

Then thanks to Falcom I kinda started to get fond of female characters with long blue hair (but I think that it actually started with Nayru from Oracle of Ages).

Agreed. Maybe it was meant to be a reboot for newcomers.
