Here is a video that makes the case why a 3DS is better value than a Switch 2:
Some of his points:
- it's pockeatable;
- the games are significantly cheaper;
- on original firmware it plays all or almost all 3DS games and all DS games;
- with homebrew you can play also a lot of other older games for free;
- battery life is better.
You're speaking to someone who has developed for and
contributed to the 3DS's homebrew scene. I'm well aware of how useful a hacked 3DS is, especially with modern projects like Artic Base and Netpass are.
That said, a random parent not particularly tuned into modern gaming discourse is gonna have no idea this is even an option. This was the point
@dkpopman was trying to make. Even if they were aware, less savvy parents might not want to roll the dice on softmodding their system, especially a system without a warranty. It seems silly to enthusiasts who are used to dealing with stuff like this, but this is going to be the thought process of most parents.
On top of that, a modern kid probably isn't going to be too enthused about a device that isn't going to be able to play more modern games like Fortnite and Minecraft. Sure, the latter is
technically on the 3DS, but it's far from an ideal way to play the game.
This all said, I have personally gotten more out of my N3DS than my Switch Lite, but some awareness of people's differing situations would be appreciated, especially someone in the more modern casual crowd. I do agree Roblox is predatory, but when it comes to other games like Fortnite or Minecraft, your argument is coming across as the standard, rather sanctimonious "thing I grew up with good, thing the youth is growing up with bad."
Also, I've watched some of NintenDeen's videos before. I've given him some benefit of the doubt before, but I would really be cautious about taking his word as gospel, considering that making videos on "the modern state of Nintendo" nonstop is getting him a ton of traction, and that you seem to have linked to him twice in this thread.
