I always had an habit of when finding a good game, that i'm very invested and has a good atmosphere, to select a "home spot" and chill there, just for the sake of enjoying the world moving, the sound design, the music.
Three of the first games i did this a lot was: Majora's Mask, ICO, and A Link To The Past

I think Zelda series are particularly good to make you want to just chill doing nothing in the game, and Majora's Mask has always been the supreme in making you feel comfortable in chilling inside the houses and watching the NPCs doing their routines.
ICO is just too perfect for relaxing(as long as you never let Yorda go), specially if you are just sitting on the bench listening to the top tier soundtrack.

But this is not exclusive to games intended to be somewhat "relaxing". I love clearing a level in Quake or Half-Life and just walking around looking at the scenario, or one of my favorite activities, which involve walking around empty custom servers in old fps games and watching everything it had to offer in it's glory. Same thing for online "Bomb Rush Cyberfunk" and the so many online custom levels where you can just keep tricking around an entire night if you want, and you even have the chance to find someone in one forgotten map, i has a very "chilling with the bros after skating all afternoon while listening to some hip-hop and telling jokes" vibe

Cyberpunk 2077 is also a game that satisfied a lot my desire for doing nothing inside a game, it even has mechanics of smoking, watching tv, drinking, playing guitar and other activities inside the game. It certainly can be a chill game with chill spots.

(My favorite spot in the whole game, in one of the Tyger Claws hideout)

So, what are some games you like to forget about the objective and just chill? Don't need to be a "chill" type game, can even be a horror game(i like to relax in Resident Evil save rooms don't judge me lmao) or an action game

Hmmm I dunno I envy yall. I always have this checklist of what I'm gonna do in a game, usually stuff for 100% completion. I usually stop by sometimes and appreciate certain details but never really do what yall do

Ico is my favorite game of all-time, but I'd call it anything but relaxing, haha. I do get what you mean though, I especially like the windmill area, but I'm so dead scared of losing Yorda that I'm tense almost the entire game.

As for the topic; my choice is definitely the entire sea in Wind Waker. As a kid I used to play it and do nothing, just chill on the small islands listening to the ambiance. I spent a whole summer with that game and it felt like an entire life. Truly magical.

I'm sorry, i didn't see there was another similar thread, i should have been more careful, my bad

I was going to say this forum seemed almost identical to that forum that I already made.

Sorry sorry
It's fine, there's nothing to actually be sorry about, so don't worry about it. A couple of other users on here made very identical forums, one similar to my All Things Moe and Favorite Wii or Wii U games.

Choosing a favorite game usually isn't an easy task, especially when you find that many games are going to be your favorite ones under different categories. So in order to do that, I had to choose one category to put it above all others.

This thread subject kind of nails down what category I've chosen... although it's not just feeling like home in the chilling sense, it's everything, the character movement, the scenario, the action, etc. But the atmospheric chill aspect is definitely there, as the N64's Dracula's castle is full of wonders once you look past its horrors.

At many moments I stopped progressing in the game for a while to slowly walk and contemplate my surroundings. If this was a free roaming game, I wonder how many more hours I'd sink into it...

I understand very well what you mean: I, too, love those games where you wander around without a specific goal - or rather - the goal is always there, but you can reach it at leisure... I mean, those games I'm alluding to of course are rpgs, where in addition to mere farming, you can afford to admire the scenery in all its beauty. Obviously I am referring to the various FFs in general, but also many others.

Any game with a beach. Like Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy X and Valkyrie Profile.

This goes so hard for me. Opassa beach in particular... granted CC is my favorite game.

Another big one for me...

It's the sight of an absolute atrocity that plagued countless people and sent the world into a literal perpetual nightmare... It's the center of a defiled, blighted wasteland of torment and horror... but something about this beach, with that eerie atmosphere yet strangely serene majesty... very little beats it.
