This is why I don't bother with most professional reviewers; especially IGN

I am not posting the actual review, but IGN's review of Mouse PI is not the worst (God Hand and Double Dragon Neon reviews are much worse reviews from the site) in my opinion, but it's why I don't like a majority of these idiots. Long story short: the review of this game was pretty much hating/disliking it for the wrong reasons, and impossible/unrealistic expectations. He hates the game for not being serious, too cartoony (even though it's a throwback shooter with 1920s cartoon aesthetics), and for not "contemplating ones actions". In a fucking old-school style FPS. The closest I am going to get posting this review is MoistKritical's response/reaction.

First God Hand, then Mario and Luigi Brothership, and now this. Why hasn’t IGN shut down yet?
Money. Also, they're against AI and that is really the only thing saving them at this point. If they start supporting AI, then those people who keep going on about IGN not becoming that better put their money where their mouth is.

surprised they didn't trash a lack of autoaim or a lack of yellow paint ::sonic-waiting

IGN never complains about obvious way pointing in general (mainly in AAA gaming), but will sometimes just to sound smart on the game they're not sponsoring nor advertising.

And yet, people still read/watch their reviews. You know you're dealing with garbage merchants, why give them the time of your day?

IGN's only good thing are its walkthroughs

Yeah.... I stopped reading or listening to anything from IGN after they gave Castlevania: Symphony of the Night an abysmal score, saying it was awful looking and a bad game. Not the precise phrasing, but that was the general idea simply because it was 2D....

As I mentioned on the main forum page a few days back "And here we are, nearly 30 years later, still praising the game for being so good" They mostly have their heads up their own asses, getting high off their own farts. Like most games and I use the term loosely "journalists" they have lost touch with home base, with what makes a game good, and just whine and complain when it doesn’t fit their narrative of what’s good.

They aren’t willing to try something different and want the same old song and dance over and over... because that’s what they’re paid to think.

To be honest I really don't care about thier review since in the ancient times or in review in general when I see a game that Interesting me I will be judge if is good for me or not I was like this way back as a kid.

Agreed and I respect you for that.

Game ""journalists"" when the game doesn't consist of you walking around talking to other npcs about waffles and rescuing kittens for 20 minutes before a cinematic 30 minute scripted fight with a tragic villain who is actually the protag's close friend (the only gameplay is a prompt to mash the x button)

TL;DR: Just ignore IGN like you would an ant that's biting you and you don't even realize it.
...unless it's a fire ant, which IGN wishes it was.

Honestly, I stopped being surprised and even taking IGN serious years ago. I just don't take "game journos" seriously, especially since it seems like a lot of 'em can't even be bothered to learn to play the games. I still haven't forgotten Dean Takahashi failing to do the tutorial level for Cuphead that's the same energy as DSP failing the platforming tutorial section at the beginning of Jak II.
I also just tend to forget the exist, and only reminded that they exist when they say something retarded, contradictory, or both.
Honestly, Mouse P.I. for Hire was something I watched in active development for years, long when the devs would post stuff they were doing with the game and got my interest immediately. I didn't wait for IGNs BS post on Eve to buy Stellar Blade moment it got on PC since I knew about it as Project EVE. And I sure as hell didn't need their "review" to buy Palworld day one when it launched because I was already a fan of the concept when PocketPair posted a CG Trailer for it in I believe June of 2022 or 2023.
You're better off just ignoring them, click on as little as possible of their videos or reviews, and just let them die a slow, painful death they deserve.

Honestly, if you want a real review and opinion on a game anymore, watch a small time YouTuber... the person who doesn't have 10,000+ fans, just your average everyday person who enjoys playing games. You'll get ten times more information about the game and a more reliable review as well.

Anyone like that has more love for the game and truth in their pinky finger than the whole of IGN combined and every other gaming journalist outlet.

That review was Jim Sterling levels of fart-huffing pseud trash. I hope IGN's been hearing about that one.

There's really no need to completely trust any reviewer, anyway. Personal judgement of a game's quality is near entirely self-evident.

I tend watch smaller review channels, but even the smaller runs with 10,000 or less will have issues or start doing dumb bullshit and get an ego. It's why I had to unsubscribe people like GGManLives and Sphere Hunter in that order. GG for really getting his head up his own ass with reviews starting around 2020, and the gact he was starting fights with some guy on GTAV for "playing the game wrong", then GG tried deleting his posts and gaslight people into saying it didn't happen or it was "fake". Only for nearly everyone to keep screenshots of the entire thing. The only people who believed him were his own fan base, and that was it.

Sphere I had to stop watching for similar reason, and due to her own hypocrisy. Fine if you're interested in the Silent Hill 2 Remake, but I don't condone arguing and fighting people for either being interested in the game, or not choosing the game(s) of your choice. Especially when the smaller indie or horror games list you provide, the games were already 2 or 3 years old and got their success and sales, while SH2R wasn't out yet. This stings even more, due to Suzy (her real name) trying to present herself professional in most of her reviews, and had no problem praising nearly every single remake or remake by Capcom (the only exception was RE3R when changed her mind and said she "forced herself to like it", similar to Evil Within) up until SH2R was even out yet. Then going about insulting Akira Yamoka (the composer for all of the classic SH games and SH2R) was uncalled for. Insulting him for doing his job as a composer. I know people were still wary of Konami at the time, but don't go about insulting developers and composer(s) for doing their job, and not starting trouble. All of this is bullshit, and not what came for. Not long after that, and all of a sudden, she started reviewing the classic PSX/PS2 SH games as soon as the remake of 2 launched. Fuck you.

The smaller channels I do trust, are NoisyPixels, I Dream of Indie, Cvit, Civvie11, and ACG. I know ACG isn't as small as he was in the early 2010s when he started, but the dude stayed true to himself. Max, Woolie, MattMcMuscles, PatStaresAt, YoVideoGames are more streamers than reviewers, but I trust them more than most game journalist and YouTube reviewers in general. Even when I disagree with them on something or several things.

Oh, I understand fully. Some of the YouTubers I actually listen to, who are big YouTubers in their own right, are TheBacklogs, DoomWolf, Seer, etc. They aren't stuck up, and in fact, when they aren't doing their millionth Dark Souls run ::cirnoshrug they play something else. They are pretty fair to whatever they are playing.

Typical IGN review: "Game's absolute crap, a vessel for a virus, and sat my rig on fire — 7/10“.
But, in all seriousness, IGN once hired a known plagiarist, then acted shocked when he plagiarized everything under the sun. I haven't been able to trust a word out of their mouths since.

Gaming journalism is just as rotten as the real thing.

I pretty much stopped trusting IGN after God Hand. Though it was more of the final nail in the ⚰️ type scenario for me, because I was already getting tired of their shit before I even turned 16. They always seemed to bitch or moan about shit that either wasn't a big deal, or complain about the game doing what it is said it was going to do as advertised.

I get you.

I was pretty much done with the whole thing after reading an extremely patronizing review by GameSpy in my teens.

When you can smell BS at that age, then you know it's a dumpster fire.
