This has even bigger knock on effects besides the consumer market, keep in mind almost everything uses RAM chips and all this ai stuff requires people to have tools to use ai, what this is doing is driving the buyers of their products out of the market, which can have major knock on effects for the world economy, possibly cause a depression or a full on market crash and collapse. The problem with this decision is the fact that there are only 3 mayor players in the ram chip manufacturing industry, samsung, hynix and micron, if one of them leaves the market the prices will go up dramatically, if ram prices basically doubled in the last 2-3 months things will be even worse from now on, I'm glad I purchase my ram kit early this year, otherwise I would be totally screwed right now.
Is Micron decision to leave the consumer market good for them? absolutely not, 95% of generative AI pilots have yet to prove to be profitable, it's likely going to backfire for them once this bubble bursts, which is likely to happen next year.

Just as I had a good day and things were going to be bright for me somehow, this happens. I hate this world.
i don't care about this AI debate, but this one is what hurts the mostThere goes my dream of building a gaming PC.
