Until business wars were banned and how business can be done stricted and strengtened with already existing laws that world really didn't care to apply these laws until mid 2000s companies openly made fun of other companies and openly insulted them by simply using good old "this X product is shit but we do better so buy from us just for $X,XX" advertizement to "This X company is for pussies, but we are the real deal!!!" kind of advertizement that sometimes even insulted customers of the rival company too lol.

In that regard new generations having a wannabe "console war" BS that was not a war between PlayStation - Xbox, but the console war we saw was between Nintendo - Sega and this is why we even call it console wars to begin with lol. For example:

I loved it when Sega came up with BS words just to sound cool as if these actually "exist" and matters, and making fun of Nintendo for "they don't have these" lol:

While PlayStation and Xbox relatively existed peacefully together and their fans were really not fanatic, when it came to Nintendo vs Sega things were waaaaay different. Fans were polarized, people were like "ha ha your daddy buys a piece of rubbish by paying tons of money when Sega is better and cheaper" and "ha ha only little kids play Nintendo, we cool kids play Sega". There was no such business and social war outside of Nintendo vs Sega console war lol. What there was afterwards is just good old business with exclusivity and that's all lol. Sure, Halo fans made fun of PlayStation owners but things were more like "light battle" comparing to Sega vs Nintendo console war lol.
