When the top-down camera is too far away or too close to the player character. It makes navigating neigh impossible. Examples of this is the Grandia and the first Legacy of Kain.

open world/use of unreal engine in a non-unique way seem to be my main killers. i don't know how to describe it but some games have that "unreal engine" look about them. the original chivalry comes to mind, enshrouded, ashes of creation. etc etc.

Endless loot that doesn't matter
Skill trees that are merely piecemeal stat boosts (as mentioned above)
Anime for the sake of anime
Roguelikes (most of the time - I do enjoy Spelunky and Into the Breach)

Phrases or descriptions that automatically make me say: No, next!!!

This is a turn based game...
This game is a soulslike...
This a multiplayer game...
This is a roguelike...
This is a strategy game...
This is a puzzle game...
This game is produced, written, developed, dreamed, raised, watched, fornicated and a loooooong etc., by Hideo Kojima...

Nothing against you if you like Kojima games btw.

3 types of games i usually eject immediately...If I am not having fun, the game has terrible ai that either kill themselves quickly or drain precious resources and last being buggy/unfinished as f###. Before you think only modern games....haha no, even nes games had this.

As someone who grew up with the Game Boy and Super Nintendo, this might sound odd—but I can’t stand time limits in games anymore. I like to take my time, and a ticking timer just feels completely out of place.

Bluepoint's Shadow of the Colossus remake often gets derided on here, but as someone who had never played the original, I was absolutely floored by the atmosphere, the beauty of the landscapes, and the gameplay. It made me want to go back and try the original, I enjoyed it that much.

People don't like the SoC remake? Why? It looks gorgeous and the original runs like absolute shit. Sounds like some heavy nostalgia goggles on them xD.

As for my answer, when I see 'Roguelike' I pretty much immediately tap out. I miss when game devs actually designed their levels.

When its tagged as roguelike, but its actually a roguelite.

Lazily implemented RPG mechanics.

Millennial writing.

Unreal Engine 4 or 5.

Open World, Survival, Crafting.

Western VN.

spiritual successor to beloved retro franchise featuring ONE of the people responsible for the old one: kickstarter flavor

bloodstained was pretty good though
Not even spiritual successors, lots of companies dig out old games to remake or IPs to revive, despite 95% of the people who made the original special having left ages prior.

Roguelike/Roguelites. I'm so very tired of seeing them.

Open World Also tends to push me away. A lot of times it's a big open map with nothing in it.
I prefer more linear games or at least games that give you different options to go, but it's not another one of those gigantic open world maps. There are way too many new games that are being released that are open world and it's pretty tiring to see open world after open world game. Even a game like Elden Ring, which I liked, but compared to previous FromSoft games I much preferred how those were structured compared to Elden Ring.
Western VN.
Besides Katawa Shoujo and I guess Doki Doki Literature Club was alright, it's difficult for me to start any western visual novels. I think most often it's the art style and the writing that makes me much prefer Japanese Visual Novels.

- Online required to play : auto reject because that mean I will not able to play for forever / whenever i want.
- Coop required : If I can't play alone, it is NO.
- Game as Service : My stance is binary : I own it, or I do NOT own it. I will not pay to get nothing.
- On Disc DLC / super early expensive DLC / Season pass on DLC : I'll wait the super cheap legendary or GotY edition, or I'll never buy (I think about you Borderland or Street Fighter V...)
- Gatcha : I have be had once, never twice.
- There is only PvP : an arcade mode is the bare minimum.
- Non remappable controls : not automatic rejection, but this is beyond laziness/stupidity nowadays.
- Super annoying sidekick / eternal beginner explanation : I see you, Navi. Haven't done that game because of that. Now I think about it, maybe some hacks do exist now...

Third-party account requirements such as some Ubisoft and Blizzard games. I remember downloading For Honor on Game Pass years ago, it wanted me to create an Ubi account, and I just exited the game and deleted it.

Way too obscure requirements not only to get the True ending, but ANY NON BAD ONE, basically if your ending require something that in the NES years would be passed as a playgrond rumor to find Mew under the truck so i can progress, i pass
