The Xbox experience!

It really is weird, because they're still sitting on top of all these franchises and studios that could easily deliver stuff for every thinkable demographic on Earth (though it's been like this since at least the Xbox One days), but their showcase streams are always just, like, four games whereof three have already been shown off before.
They're like Smaug, owning all these treasures but just sleeping on it all.
They are sitting on all of Rare's catalog.

Yeah. As someone who absolutely loves Sea of Thieves that's one of the teams I'm not as sad about, but I know people really want to see more legacy Rare stuff being revived.
Banjo for example probably wouldn't be the same without Gregg Mayles though, since he left this year after that Everwild game was canned.

I live in Brazil and nobody here knew what an Xbox was. We all had Playstation 2. I discovered because an American cousin moved here and brought it with him. I still find it surreal that Microsoft made a console, stupid company.

Microsoft's idea for the console wasn't bad but they should have put more effort into it.

But they had Halo right? I played with split screen and it was pretty incredible. Also, Xbox Live was kinda groundbreaking. What else could they have done?

Yes but Halo is not everything a lot of things went wrong in the management.

The first two consoles were done well with good exclusives, but it seems like the last two consoles had really been about trying to make a more powerful console, but not really doing a whole lot with it. Their acquisitions of other studios hasn't really paid off since they keep cancelling games and releasing mediocre titles after years of development.

I loved Halo, but everything after Reach was a disappointment.

With the arrival of Xbox exclusives on Playstation, it seems that Microsoft is no longer interested in competing in the console market. The new Sega as some people are saying. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe the new console is made to keep the brand, the name "xbox", I really don't know. I just think that currently it doesn't make much sense to have an Xbox.

That's ridiculous, $800 Microsoft raises Xbox prices again. 🤦‍♂️

I kind of get it, in the sense that they (Microsoft) want to compete in the living room space, moreso than in the console space specifically. At least, that's what it feels like to me.
The actual people who work at and develop Xbox specifically (below Microsoft as a whole) are probably caught in between a rock and a hard place.

missed out on the OG Xbox. That is the preferred way to play multiplats that gen. I rather play the GCN port then play a PS2 port of any multiplat game. The Xbox back then was just too good for this world.

I use my original and 360 fairly often but beyond that there really isn't anything of value. Xbox as a brand never recovered from the Xbox One's terrible reveal.
Will never forget all the people who defended that shit, my favourite one being Cliffy B with his infamous deleted tweet: “Say what you will about Don Mattrick but he has more money than any of you”

Phil Spencer was hoping to capitalise on a more casual part of the PC gaming market and he failed, because for them it's still becoming a, **ahem**, and I quote!!, "a console peasant". The console was bought and loved by anyone that has amassed a large digital library on their Xbox account.

Credit where credit is due, the series X was an amazing machine that was very very powerful for its price point during release, no way they weren't selling at a huge loss and expecting it to sell like hotcakes based on it's capabilities alone, the price point currently is to try to make something back, although it is too late. No hype and gathering dust on shelves. Too expensive now to work as solely a 4k blu ray player either, so it can't be recommended for that.

I personally believe Xbox lost when they didn't part Jet set radio future to the Xbox backwards compatibility. Jet set radio future was all the xbox really needed in my eyes, that and a decent Halo game, it got neither in years.

The emulation scene for the OG Xbox is abysmal as an example, The Xbox brand is dying and is currently just a testing ground for a video games version of netflix, streaming sites more or less so we can return to renting games and not owning shit, not even a license to download a working signed copy of a game.

The OG xbox only exists because Bill gates was insecure about the Japanese dominance of the gaming market. The xbox 360 was a mad dash to get the next gen of console first to market at a 80% failure rate for the initial machine.

All round Xbox situated itself as being the cheap gaming machine after initially being the premium console machine.

Me poor small indie company Microsoft trying to survive in Trump's American Nightmare™©℗® lolol.

The original Xbox was Great Value brand Dreamcast, and the 360 is the cause of EVERYTHING bad in gaming today. If I'm being completely honest and not sugarcoating anything, I hate the Xbox brand.

All that being said, I can't deny that both consoles had some bangers on them. Viva Pinata, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Otogi, The Dishwasher Vampire Smiles, Dust an Elysian Tail, Mass Effect, Jet Set Radio Future, etc, etc.

really wish classic XBOX emulation was better

No demand for it. Handful of games stuck to it, off the shelf PC hardware, most games people care about were multi-platform.

If Redmond weren't completely disconnected from their own users, they would roll out their internal emulation to PC users and let them fire up all OG Xbox or 360 titles on Windows 11 at this point.

you're gonna run out of consoles and games to emulate and you'll come crawling to XBOX eventually.

Be honest, do you really like the Xbox or do you all think it's a pointless console that should never have been made?
Personally, I have no problem with the console but somehow I get the feeling that the device is just wandering around aimlessly without really having a goal, just following the motto “I'm here too!” What experiences have you all made with the Xbox?

And what do you all think the future holds for Xbox? I think it will probably depend on how prices develop because if all the devices keep getting more expensive, it's over. What do you all think?
It's an interesting topic really because at one point the OG Xbox was really just a portable PC gaming experience. The 360 cemented online gaming and community.

The Xbox One was the biggest blunder that they have not and will not recover from imo. We still are dealing with the ripple effect from the horrid PR surrounding the console but as time is going on a lot of people don't want to admit that the Xbox One was actually right. It even pushed to be a main mediacenter console like what the PS3 was trying to do and pushed that one step further with being able to feed your cable box into the system and use it as a passthrough. Issue is, no one that was buying that, wanted it.

The Xbox Series S/X was a step in the right direction but developers refused to really optimize their games for the Series S system (Some don't bother optimizing at all) and cloud gaming still isn't widely accepted yet. Unfortunately it feels like a too little too late. And now with the whole tariff situation happening I think right now Xbox is doing the right thing by trying to make their User Experience and platform available on more than just the consoles.

I think it's the right thing to transition to a platform over a console exclusively at this point because as a whole I think the gaming market is in a transitional period. People are wanting a change with how they want to play games. People are rightfully annoyed when they find out their friends got the opposite console to them, Cross-Play has never been bigger this way. What I think Xbox should be looking into is the handheld PC market. I think that they should be looking into getting all of their stuff onto PC in some way shape or form, even if it's an exclusive store. Hell even Playstation has taken that first step with porting their games over to Steam.

My last Xbox was a One X. I don’t have one currently, but I still have Game Pass Ultimate for PC and Cloud. Microsoft is heavily investing in streaming and going all in. The only thing I truly miss about owning a physical Xbox is the backward compatibility with original and 360 games. The day they bring the backward compatibility program to Windows PC, that'll be the day the Xbox console becomes obsolete.

They are sitting on all of Rare's catalog.
With Microsoft putting games on other consoles I really wish we could get the Viva Pinata games on the Switch, preferably the original Switch so we don't have to deal with keycard nonsense

I just read on other forum that Costo is no longer selling Xbox games, so the future is grim.

The OG Xbox and the 360 are just peak gaming, both amazing systems and the later one of the spearheads in pushing gaming into mainstream.

However corpos do what corpos do best and fucked it up and soon as they smelled money, and even I played the shit out of Xone it was trash compared to the PS4: all focus on everything besides gaming. And these recent years have been even worse, with MS pushing for services and just crap content.

They have already decided to just become a service company, with digital licenses at best and just a different platform for gaming on PC. A sad end, but corpos greed knows no limit. Just take Halo as example and Xbox downfall will follow a similar path to irrelevance.

Microsoft seems to be loving the fact that Playstation owners are buying Xbox games. Xbox owners would've also bought Xbox games if you hadn't devalued them with Game Pass. 🤦‍♂️

To be honest I think Game Pass helps with the issue that companies are overvaluing their games. Like the current market of AAA titles are vastly worth less than full price in my opinion. And for the Indie titles I was able to experience a game like Infernax, which would've flown completely under my radar had I not had Game Pass at the time. I picked it up on Steam shortly after my first playthrough.
