My previous thread's feeling kinda old news, so I felt like doing another one would be best. Especially considering this is probably my last upload for a while (stuff like this takes time, obviously).

This had been over two months in the making. Tried my best to find everything I could find about it, and it compiled into this. I probably made a couple errors, but let's be honest, everyone does.

"There is no truly bad Mario platformer!" Time to prove some peeps wrong.

The worst mario games I know of is the mario port to one of the pc machines Sharp X1 or Pc88 by Hudson soft. Screen didn't scroll and other things, just know it is very bad.

Also the nes and snes mario is missing and mario time machines aren't as bad as you think. The Snes MIM does have some fun boss fights, and MTM has a fun surfing minigame. Sure not action oriented, but they weren't that type. Still better than the sesame street games.

Last is the Super Mario Run....still panned as terrible in reviews.

Does Hotel Mario count? Or even those Mario education games on the NES and SNES? Those were pretty bad.
Well, you beat me to it.
I still wonder if Hotel Mario even counts though, so I'm gonna have to come up with a backup answer.

Also not sure if Super Mario 2 (USA) counts since it's not originally a Mario game, so there goes my plan B.

Honestly, in my opinion.. Super Mario World.
The addition of kicking shells upwards was, in my opinion, the only thing saving that game's reputation. Everything else is kinda just  meh, and there were Mario games before  and after it which introduced new mechanics that were way more of a game-changer than anything SMW had to offer. It may have been a pioneer of it's time, but it also serves as a reminder of what could have been.

Mario 3 was way more of an advancement to the genre I would say, with a lot more new and additional content than the previous games than Super Mario World introduced and was (again, my opinion here) way more fun to play than SMW. Granted, there were a lot of new features in SMW, but it just doesn't have the same replayability that Mario 3 has had going for it since the games' respective releases.

i think at this point, everyone just accepts it as a canon game, despite the plot twist at the end. and if it wasn't, then about half of the well known enemies in mario aren't canon anymore since they first debuted in that game.
a lot of people like ninji and shy guy and birdo. i am certain that they would fight to the bitter end to keep that game in the mainline canon.

This one looks like a fever dream.

As a fan of the SMB1, when I see something similar it instantly grabs my attention. First Gianna Sisters, now this. Which means now I want to play it! lol

Who knows, maybe it's gonna be a better experience than SMB2(J)
Post automatically merged:

they would count if mario can jump in those. platformers require that the playable character can jump.
I'd say Hotel Mario counts. Sure, he jumps low, so he did on Donkey Kong.

Huh, actually kinda surprised there's some kind of discussion going on here. Good to see, even if it's not completely related to my work.

This is precisely why I made it the subject (and specifically the PC-88 one, because at least the X1 port can be tolerated...to an extent). It's the kind of thing that requires going into a crevice very few ever even notice, let alone dive into.
The hardest part for me was simply getting the info for it. It's all over the place, in terms of who says what about it.

A word of warning if you plan on doing the original PC-88/X1 version: I did mention the controls, there. You're basically looking at an NES controller designed southpaw. If you're going the controller route, this means B jumps and A runs. Good luck trying to convert to that lmao.

And of course the PC-88 ROMs being borked, but I'm sure that's a given considering you did see the thing.

Good job with this video! I'm a Mario fan but I think I'd have overlooked this game if it wasn't for you, and this video gives me a good idea of what the game is like.

Also I realized you're the person who made the Secret Fighting Game video, I liked that one too, so I've subbed to your channel now 😁
