WonderSwan The WonderSwan was robbed

I really wish that they had released it in the US. I picked up a Wonderswan Color a couple years ago and put in an IPS screen. I love it and my copy of Mr. Driller has gotten hours of use.

mr. driller is fun to play. my sister got one of the later games and i learned that dig dug is mr. driller's dad through it.

Wouldn't that make Dig Doug the  real 'Mr. Driller'? ?
yeah, it would.
it also adds something extra to that one robot chicken sketch they did of dig dug where he got the air pump as a gift from his son and it ended up saving his life from the monsters.

I have a Wonderswan Color. It's a neat little handheld but the screen is practically impossible to see. I have been considering modding it with an ips screen but they're kind of expensive.

If I ever get one I think I'll get a Swan Crystal. I hear of the 2 WonderSwan models it has the best screen.

If you plan to keep it stock, the Crystal is definitely the better option. There is no difference between the Color and the Crystal other than the screen, the WSC screen was so bad that even in it's era they felt the need to release an upgrade, and those screens have gotten harder to see as they aged (much like Game Boy's).

But if you plan to do a screen mod, just get the Color. It's so much cheaper, and there's no reason to get the Crystal if you don't keep the stock screen.

I know this is a super subjective question but how does it feel to play games using those buttons?

I am curious about one day getting a Wonderswan in the future. Digimon & Klonoa are my kryptonite.
But when ever I look at it my brains just associates those directional buttons with early 2000nds flip phone gaming and I get the (hopefully wrong) impression they would be squishy and sluggish to responsive when playing.

The buttons feel fine to play with. It's like the old PlayStation directional pad design, except they're actually separate buttons. You probably wouldn't think about it very much while playing.

As for the games themselves, Klonoa should be fine but you will have trouble playing Digimon unless you know Japanese. Exception being that you might be able to play Digital Monster ver WS.

Truthfully I probably wouldn't have gotten one for the same reason I didn't get a Neo Geo Pocket Color as a kid, just didn't know it existed. I'd definitely have gotten one when I started collecting games after high school though.

they look so sick. had no idea they existed til i started getting into emulation. its on my (long) list of console libraries to sift through. anyone have any game recs?

I've known about the WonderSwan for quite awhile thanks to my Digimon obsession. It always pissed me off that I was missing out on those games. x) I do have a small collection of fan translated games now, just gotta get around to it. I did mess around with Battle Spirit 1.5 and was surprised that it looked so good.

The version of Chocobo Dungeon on the vanilla b&w Wonderswan is unironically my fave version of Chocobo Dungeon. Been playing it off and on throughout the year on my Analogue Pocket. With save states, it's a great medium-low pressure game to unwind to.

* should note that it does have an English patch if you want in the Repo

Oh come on; that's just incompetent.
based on what i know and heard about konami, they just don't care. they tried to replace silent hill with the movie tie-in saw games; and when that failed, they decided that anyone can just write a horror story, so that why the next 4 silent hill games after silent hill 4 are a mixed bag.

Does the WonderSwan have a flashcart that saves games?
