The Use If Dumb Phones

So in my pursuits of breaking away from the internet and not using social media as much. I’ve been looking into “dumb phones” just as a daily carry while I’m outside has anywhere used one or found them worth it for breaking away from the algorithms

I used to own 2 or 3 of them before finally getting my first smart phone a Nokia XL back in 2018 , they are pretty useful for calls and quite small and more nimble that they won't bother you when you put it in your pocket compared to lets say smart phones that can be pretty large...what some people here do when their kid becomes 12th grade is they replace their smartphone with a "dumb phone"

I would love to like separate the two have my phone and like iPod for music. I was born like around when iPhones started getting big so my parents started making the transition from like flipphone to blackberry than touchscreens

As someone who is currently using an iPhone 3 that I was given around six year ago to replace my flip phone, and which is now so old that I can't load up most websites on it, let alone install an app. I think it's safe to say that you can still get away with a Smart Phone if you want to avoid social media. It just has to be old enough.

By the way, I don't avoid social media. It's just that I've never been into it, even when it was at the height of its popularity. I mean, why should I post pictures of my food online, and why would anyone care?

The only reason I haven't done this is because I enjoy having Spotify everywhere I go.

I guess I could load it onto a smart phone with a ton of storage space and just download everything for offline mode. I don't really use my phone for much else that i cant do either on my PC or with a flip phone.

My dumb phone only functions for 911 and Internet, otherwise I just have it for games. I don't really use it as a 'phone' in any way.. More of a personal emulator with internet browser and chat capabilities.

I love my phone mostly just cause YouTube and SoundCloud that’s all I use and Pinterest cause me and my gf like making boards and also the forum

At some point I used cheap 30€ dumbphones with eInk screens.

Nowadays I use an android phone with custom LineageOS. With Fennec browser and Retroarch to play games.

This is true but my young ahh has never really had that like when I was 5 there was still blackberries but it was on its way out. Shit my first phone was an Lg I have been using touchscreens since I was a kid

I just want don't want total dependency on an internet, I still have a lot of old techs and specific device designed for one specific reason, like a brick of a DAP, or CDs and physical media in general.
Is it inconvenient? Absolutely, does it look cool? Definitely, the best part is you can send me to 2000 B.C. and it will work indefinitely, no internet required, I can charge with a hand crank charger.

There's no need to resurrect old emissaries of 'Space Impact' or 'Snake', because even an old Android device with 4 GB of hard disk is sufficient (more than 3 GB are consumed by the operating system and default applications), while in the remaining space they have their place for few things like email applications; a half-functioning network browser (in the Lite version) and YouTube reconstructed through BGYT Player (Google has stopped supporting an official version for such old systems years ago).

It's the same as a dumb phone. That's how phone companies are calling the non-Smartphone ones.
