In the game Undertale, the song Undertale plays during a stretch of gameplay in which you're advancing through a featureless, unbranching corridor with no enemies and a great many scripted events of tragic exposition dialogue that don't interrupt the music. This sequence takes place virtually just before the boss battle against a major lore figure whose existence had been hyped for most of the game.
Can anyone think of more games that happen to do this or something similar? For those who have experienced it, what do y'all think of this sequence? Is it acceptable to describe newer games with gameplay sequences that mirror this as having Undertaled their players?

Something like that happens in killer7, yeah; you always go through a certain corridor before boss battles. It's clearly disjointed from the levels, but you do get to visit the actual place at some point before a major reveal.

Hey, that was also in No More Heroes by the same dude.

In hindsight, I suppose arriving in Zanarkand in FFX is vaguely similar to this, although you have normal fights that don't interrupt the area music instead of additional exposition events.

I love when they do that.

Such as in the Core in Undertale
.

I didn't expect to compare these two together but I think red dead 2 had some disembodied voices speaking to you on the final stretch to the finale. Maybe not exactly the same but it's somewhat similar I think.
I'm sure there's other games that do this too but I just can't think of any right now. Feels like a great way to dump some narrative on the player and build up emotions.
Undertale is an easy target to make fun of btw but I can't deny that I do love that game.

Closest i can think is Strange Journey in Neutral Route

Sector Horodlium, you are an aisle away of reachin the ladder that leads to the door to Mem Aleph, pillars raise from the sides, with text claiming they are reacting to YOU, before opening the door your crew gives you the usual "Don't die there" speech

Sadly the way you describe it i can't find a similar one

While people hate on undertale and I also could say it is likely overrated just because it is being rated overly positively, I absolutely adore Undertale, the song, which plays in that scene. I absolutely adore the song as much as the sequence.

First thing, though not entirely comparable, I have of this are the numerous "Downhill walk" sequences in Death Stranding. Kojima chose to use the music group "Low Roar" as main backing in lot of the game, usually in "Downhill walk" sequences. You ascend a mountain of sort, usually have to deal with the stealth/combat of the game extensively, under pressure for longer than usual for your main objective. And then, the rain stops, the sky clears, you see a hill and land going down and maybe even your goal, over yonder. And then a Low Roar song starts playing.
And in case of Death Stranding, the game pulls out the stunt repeatedly and it does not really ever get old.

I know of a ZQuest Classic quest that does what I described, although the use of Heartache and ASGORE midis for the boss music maybe makes it a little too on the nose. I will not specify which quest I'm referring to, as that would lead to people expecting to encounter it.
