The TakeOver 2 comes out this year on September 10th, 2026! I was not expecting this! The demo is out right now!

I played it and it is already a huge improvement over the first game which is already good. There's actual weapon variety. Combos now have wall bouncing. You can kick enemies when they're on the ground. Right now there is only one selectible character, and it's Ethan, but clearly these move sets have been expanded. The same will apply for either a new demo when they have the other characters, or when the game actually comes out.

I really like The Takeover and this one looks promising. Gonna keep an eye out for it.

Not bad, the trailer looks convincing.

I saw that video earlier today. Looks really cool The Takeover was on sale for 3.99 on Steam so I bought it.

Enjoy and have fun.

The TakeOver 2 does have a parry button and the game does encourage it. Especially on the harder modes.

I am the absolute worst at parrying regardless of the game lol. I always forget to do it.

The good news is that parrying is not too difficult to do, but you can't mindlessly press the button either. For my first play of the demo, I didn't know the parry button existed, but I was able to get through the whole demo without much trouble. That said, once I started parrying, the game got even more fun for me, One of the bosses is a hidden parry tutorial. There is a practice mode in this game, and the last game, if you want to try out moves.

I'll download the demo after I get some time in with the first one. Good beat em ups are hard to come by.

Not necessarily. We've been getting a lot of good or great ones for a long while. Some have been average or mediocre, but nothing really horrible nor bad for the most part.

  • Streets of Rage 4
  • The TakeOver
  • TMNT: Shredder's Revenge
  • Ninja Saviors (Ninja Warriors Once Again)
  • Double Dragon Gaiden
  • Double Dragon Revive
  • SIFU
  • Final Vendetta
  • Fallen City Brawl
  • Dancin Divas
  • Marvel Cosmic Invasion
  • Absolum - I don't like it though.
Rushing Beat X comes out in a few weeks.

I've been experimenting more with The TakeOver 2 demo, and just realized it's using the same ranking and combo system as Streets of Rage 4. You know how SOR4 does the more hits/harder the hit is, the more is added to the combo counter? Yes, that even includes losing your combo or breaking, if you get hit. So sometimes it's best to get to an 100+ combo and let it clear so you can get the score button. I began getting A-Ranks and S-Ranks consistently once I realized this.

I was actually able to get the end demo boss caught in an infinite air juggle for the entire fight. It did require me spamming the neutral special button whenever a new minion would show up, but it was worth it. Me doing that, and not taking any hits while performing said infinite, granted me an S-Rank.
