Reminds me of a giant Ouya.

If they price it around $500 to $600 it'll be great. I'm disappointed that almost everything in it is last gen tech.
No next gen SD Card Slot.
No USB 4.
Being stuck at 8GB Video Memory is a huge issue.
It's a 1080p Gaming PC from 2019 in a very sleek small package.

I'm really interested in this. I've been debating building a living room PC to use, as I mainly just plug in my Steam Deck, which often struggles for more intensive games, especially at the larger resolution.

It really depends on price though. From what I've read it's going to be priced fairly high, certainly higher than either an Xbox or PS5. I've never gotten into VR, but if the Machine and the Frame is priced similarly, maybe it's time to start looking into getting one of those instead.

Accurate. I was a backer for that shit.

It amazes me that they got them into retail stores.
I never backed it, but I bought one new from a retail store for $50. And then I found another one this year at a Goodwill for $8. Used it for a good number of years as a TV emulator box. It was good for that.

I'm definitely going to buy the controller.
I don't care about the VR system.
And the Gabecube is something I might consider when my PC dies.

it's a cube. a cube that can play 9 generations of consoles. sweeeeeet :p

I'm not entirely convinced sorry.

Not sure since BloodBorne hasn't been released to PC (yet).

Also I doubt it could natively run the Oddysey either.

If I didn't have a more powerful machine I'd definitely consider it. I still might depending on what I end up doing with my main machine when I get my office sorted out and need something for my TV in my room.

Watched a few GN videos on the recent hardware and talk with the designers on the headset, and it really made me appreciate the PSVR2 in terms of getting similar results at a cheaper price point.
It would be nice to have a go with Valve's new VR headset though, but it's gonna be pricey with the design choices made.

If this thing is around 500 as a base option, it will be undercutting the PC competition on price/performance and become the most compelling prebuilt gaming PC on the market. Even at 600 it's competitive. 700 or 800 would be a reasonable expectation, but that also would deflate any hype or potential around it.

Some lunatics are saying it'll cost 1000+ and that is just a complete non-starter. It would flop immediately. Valve aren't that stupid. Even if they are unprepared, and exposed to the ram and storage prices suddenly skyrocketing, they would still be better off eating the difference.

Early 2026 is only a few months out. It's going to be wild having a more powerful proton console.

I agree with you, but I'm honestly half expecting it to be in the $1000 range, the way journalists who have spoken to Valve are acting. That being said, if they can make a Steam Deck for $550, I think they can get this under $1000

I wouldn't pay a thousand dollars unless the thing actually runs on steam. ::huhsonic

Oh Valve has Steam which can easily offset the initial losses on underselling hardware, but early buyers never seem to give a shit about the price anyways.

The sooner they drop the price on us, the better. Rip the bandaid off around the uncertainty and bullshit, because right now all the gaming "press" and podcasting enthusiasts are saying 500 up to 1200 for the Machine itself.

I feel like price is less of a priority to me cuz I don't have a working PC at all currently. I'm posting this reply off a wireless keyboard connected to my docked Steam Deck. It's like that box was made specifically for me and my situation lol. I already have a plan to "pay it down" like I do more important things these days.

Funny enough I found an OUYA controller at the thrift store months ago for a few bucks but the actual "console" wasn't there. The controller still works and I connected it thru bluetooth on my Steam Deck.

Are the specs good enough to last at least 5 years decently running games?

This should sell really well if it is priced right and even to the people like me who made their own PC consoles at one point because of the Steam OS part being normally better then Tiny 10 + Retrobat or Batocera.

Guess I can speed up my NAS making by reusing my soon to be old console parts

Well, that all depends on what resolution you'll be playing at as well as the type of games you'll be playing. The current specs make it seem on par with a base PS5. If this is priced competitively (as it should be!) this will be a great entry device for those looking into a console experience with PC games. However, the "4k @ 60 FPS with FSR" to me seems a little dubious with how demanding some of these newer games have gotten.

If valve actually marketed this to the general public this has the change to disrupt and permanently alter the console market in a way not seen since the launch of the Original Playstation.

The steamdeck can already run every PS5 & Xbox series X game- And that's a handheld.
A gamecube sized computer, booting steam OS/Big picture that has Steam sales & the ability to still access de-listed games- something not possible on any console?
Wrong. Steamdeck is weaker than a Switch 2. Saying that would mean Switch 2 can render any PS5 game, and that's clearly been proven as false.

600 is too expensive. Second hand PC with same specs would cost half that.

800 is absolutely insane price, it will die before it is being released, only Valve and PC hooligans will buy it. And specially when the release date is somewhere 2026. Next year a mini PC with a Ryzen AI and a Radeon 8050S would cost less than 1000, and that CPU is equal to a PS5, so no.

he probably means multi - platform games where it depends on the quality of the port, but one has to consider that running new 3d games with drm via Proton instead of Windows native, will cause multiple issues to new users.
