Cartoons The Simpsons

I haven't been keeping up with the Simpsons for the last ten years or so. I felt like the writers had a really hard time trying to appeal to a younger demographic and thus opted for more and more throw-away Family Guy type humor that cheapened the show. I heard the current seasons are slightly better but I've heard that before (more than once) and even in the brief moments where a new-ish episode made me chuckle the jokes just didn't have the same staying power and depth anymore.

Having said that the first couple of seasons (roughly up until the millenium for me) are still phenomenal and endlessly rewatchable. The level of the writing is plain incredible. The cultural impact of the show just can't be overstated. Like probably half my brain by volume is Simpsons quotes.

I have my own thoughts about the whole Apu thing. It could have been handled better by the creators, for sure but it's really not my place to tell other races what they can or can't be offended by. If someone with a different background and perspective were to tell me "hey this character you created had a negative impact on my life" I'd listen to them at least.
I personally find most of the awkward celebrity cameos much more of a dealbreaker. That such a satirical show originally built on counter culture humor and sensitivities would stoop so low and shill for loathsome people like Musk is beyond saddening.

I haven't watched the new Futurama series either and don't intend to. I love the characters and the world and I consider the main run one of the best animated romances ever, but they should have let the show end on a high note long ago.

the old series was brilliant ofc but the newer episodes just have zero humor 🤷😐

Yeah.

The old series predicted the future.

Current one is trying to catch up to the present.
it feels like the new episodes have more of a linear structure, i remember the old episodes would would have so many twists and turns you had no idea where the plot was going and it worked

i was watching new episodes recently and at one point Bart said something that made me chuckle a little and it was then i realized i hadn't laughed AT ALL up until that point and its just not funny anymore :(

thankfully there are so many old classic episodes to re-watch!

And I'd even argue that one of the previous "endings" was also good enough.

I think the Simpsons as a franchise overstayed its welcome, it's a relic of the 90's like Pokémon (yes I said it).

I'd even dare saying they should focus solely on derivate products instead of continuing the show for the sake of it.

Valid take on Pokémon

I barely remember the Simpson-mania and the Poke-mania.

Back to The Simpsons I just am annoyed by "they predicted it" when they said a lot of various things, even wrong.

Homer should beat up ash Ketchup

I couldn't really watch anything past season 10 ( i only kept my dvd collection from 1 to 10 ) ... like maybe occasionally i'll watch random episodes on tv past season 10 but basically everything before phil hartman's death was where the simpsons was at it's best ... then the quality pretty much started to fade away ... also it was very short-sighted killing off maude flanders

Yes, agreed. I never saw the sense of it -- and the "payoff", little as it was, didn't happen for years and years after the fact. If it was supposed to be a test of faith for Ned, then there were a million other ways to do it without permanently damaging the show... and what's maddening is that the writers knew this because of both the hurricane episode and also because of when he opened the Leftrorium, too.

I don't know. It just didn't make sense neither back then nor now.

Are there a list of the best episodes?

Also I'm confused, Gorse got banned a while ago but still replied?

Gorse was never banned. He just has that as his custom title, which has lent itself to a lot of confusion.

As for your other question... IMDB lists the episodes by user-rating.

That's a neat feature but I haven't seen anyone banned so far here.

Okay, I'll check them because I don't have the patience to go through every episodes.

Didn't Maude get killed off because of a pay dispute with the voice actress? I remembered reading somewhere that that's why Maude's death was treated the way it was.

Who's still watching The Simpsons? I don't think I'll ever stop watching this show... it's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and a staple of each and every weekend since my kindergarten days (there's a huge, six-hour-long block that plays nothing but Simpsons reruns each Saturday, with new episodes premiering on Sunday).

The current quality of the show is debatable, but its cultural impact certainly isn't. And, frankly, having it as the "ice-breaker" topic completely outweighs the shifting quality in my book. There's always a reference you can throw and someone who would get it. That's priceless.
I used to watch it everyday from elementary to early middle school, now I barely even think about the show

First time I'm hearing that, but it suddenly makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, seams she wanted a pay increase to cover flying out to record lines and got shot down, so she walked. I remember reading somewhere that her death via T-Shirt cannon was deliberately meant to be silly and embarrassing due to sour grapes from the producers for her quitting, but that might just be hearsay.
