"The Shadow is a SNES game that was originally supposed to be released in 1995, but was canceled shortly before release. There are two versions of the prototype commonly found online. Per the website SNES Central, Proto 1 is thought to be the cleanest dump of the game, while Proto 2 appears to be a corrupted version of it with the internal header hacked. The graphics data in Proto 2 is corrupted, causing certain enemies to display glitchy graphic frames. While most emulators will run either version, the SNES Classic stock emulator Canoe does not always work with Proto 1, […]

I just wanted to thank the site administration and moderators for creating this amazing site! Been lurking on CD site since forever, but after the 'incident' came over here and decided to get out of the shadow (see what I did? lol). I love the site and all the new translations, hacks, mods, etc. allows us to see/experience all the cool obscure game that we missed as kids :)

For a prototype game and also that it was based on the movie it doesn't look bad because playably it was influenced by Capcom's Beat 'em up games like Final Fight for its mechanics and The Punisher In the parts where you have to pull out the gun and kill all enemies (But in the Sense that you're shooting at enemies in the Game), Graphically it is fine for a prototype game and the music and sound effects are good and compliant at the same time and the patch of the Glitches fix of the sprites in the Proto 2 version closely resembling the Proto 1 version. Although I haven't seen the film, yes, but I hope it looks good too.

Isn't the shadow basically OG ' batman' before batman even exist?
The Shadow was probably the biggest influence on Batman. He predates him by close to a decade by showing up in old radio shows. A lot of people don't bring up that he was originally just the narrator character, but the The Shadow became so popular that people wanted to get actual stories about him. This popularity led to him getting his own pulp magazine where people could read stories about him, and to write those stories, the publisher hired Walter B. Gibson, who'd worked as both a stage magician and crime reporter, to flesh out the Shadow's mythos. There's really two different versions of the Shadow, the radio version where he's a master hypnotist who can turn invisible and the pulp novel version where he's a stealthy master of disguise. The radio show version is probably the best known version now, but both were really popular in the 1940s-1950s. The Shadow was arguably as popular back then as Batman is now. People probably found a character appealing who could deal out justice to bad guys while also scaring the hell out of them in the crime-ridden Great Depression/Prohibition era United States. One of my personal favorite things about the Shadow is his agents, normal everyday people who The Shadow recruited, usually after saving their lives, who aided him in his crusade. Batman and the Punisher talk a big game about their "war on crime", but the Shadow had his own army backing him up.

Bill Finger was allegedly a big fan of the Shadow pulp stories, and it shows if you go back and read any of the first Batman stories from the 30s (the very first Batman story in Detective Comics #27 is borderline plagiarism. It reads like an abridged version of a Shadow pulp story). Batman moved away from the Shadow's influence when Robin was introduced. Though there are still some similarities in their paraphernalia (the Shadow used boomerangs, scaled walls with grappling hooks, and had his own plane) and villains with similar gimmicks. Pretty soon after Robin showed up, Batman stopped using guns and killing criminals (even if it was usually indirectly). After the Adam West Batman TV show ended, the Batman comics experienced a drop in sales, so in the 1970s, writer Dennis O'Neal would start to move Batman back to his more pulp & gothic influence that originated with The Shadow. Around this time, DC Comics would eventually get the license for The Shadow to give him his own comic series in the mid 70s (worth checking out if you're at all interested in The Shadow), and would also have Batman meet The Shadow for a team-up

I got one!

Any chance we can get the South Park GBC game? It was a prototype that was cancelled and repurposed into a Mary Kate & Ashley game.

The og rom was leaked a few years ago but I always forget about it when it comes to mind.

I just noticed it at retroachievements.org while hunting for South Park games.

Stay cool everyone!

Let's watch the movie. It's actually a cinematic masterpiece.

Ah, I remember The Shadow film adaptation. Alec Baldwin really killed it in that movie... And then used his connections to get away with it.
90's movies are timeless and cinematic. The visual never gets old today.

I loved that movie'the sun is shining', you will respond, 'but the ice is slippery'

I have tested proto 1 before and today again in different emulators and I have not seen any problems whatsoever, in booting it up at least. Maybe that is or was a problem of old emulators?

Apart from that is there any difference? Are these two the same build and different dumps, or two different builds, and this is the latter case, then which is the most recent build? - - > This is basically what I wanted to know and the reason for my initial question.
This fix seems to be more aimed at Canoe (SNES classic) emulator users

If you haven't already reread the description proto 2 is the one that works in most emulator while the graphically better proto 1 often fails to boot up

The graphics fix basically uses proto 1 graphics for proto 2 so that the visual glitches don't occur on the more working version

What is the advantage of this Proto 2 in comparison to Proto 1?

Yeah. After Sherlock Holmes popularity world got into popularity of detective stories so hard when radio was invented and then started to be used among common people one of the first radio show idea they came up with was whatever is related to detective stuff.

In the context of the genre, Sherlock Holmes was already "too different" than what you would expect from a detective story because Sherlock Holmes is not a "cop", he is just a citizen who is a private investigator out of French culture for they invented the concept of "private investigators" as a real life job who does his thing to help law, however what is different in Sherlock Holmes is his existence is invention of "science of crime" idea to solve realistic crimes with realistic science. So often other fictions were Sherlock Holmes wannabe. People liked it, yet it got so generic society was looking for innovation. Sherlock Holmes and wannabe characters wasn't directly fighting with crime, they were just solving it despite they could "barely" defend themselves when they had to, so it would be an innovation if a detective would actively fight with crime physically especially when they are not a professional one!!!

Then they kinda merged the idea of "Phantom Thief" idea from Arsene Lupin with Sherlock Holmes idea and boom we got the Shadow who hides his identity like a phantom thief and wears a "costume", and he is being detective and catching criminals "in the shadow". The Shadow is not the first character hiding his identity whose not a bad guy, but he is the first example of a masked hero fighting with crime therefore he shouldn't be undermined on how much influence he caused on vigilante idea to masked superhero fictions. Costumed superhero idea came after costumed villains because back then society had naive idea on what is a good person is a hard working honest person who saves people without hiding anything because they do nothing wrong, only evil hides their identity so the Shadow changed that and over decades people started to think being a vigilante and even wearing costumes are ok because the Shadow does so why you shouldn't? lol. But after it was understood that being vigilante is a crime due to modern hero characters only then the foundation of American comic fiction was founded with the Shadow so a hero in modern era could make sense lol.

In that context, the Shadow is a rich guy who has to hide his identity because being vigilante is a crime which naturally this is the most logical way to create a vigilante character because a vigilante requires money to fund his goal because it ain't a job and he has to be able to afford his way for his goal lol. This is actually why superhero characters invented so even poor people like Peter Parker can be vigilante thanks to his mutant powers... well he just have to afford fixing his costumes but that's okay!!! lolol

Honestly, i never know than was canceled. I swear see pictures and recomentations, pre reviews about this game in magazines of video games.
