32X The SEGA Neptune is real

I don't think it serves much of a purpose. It looks cool though. If you have the money and you're a collector it'd make an interesting showpiece for a collection.

It looks cool for sure but really, it's kind of a cool thing to buy and display rather than anything else. Like @bjork said "I don't want to be overall dismissive, because there was clearly time and work put into this project"

Honestly, if they were selling just the case for a DIY build, I'd be more likely to buy one and make my own custom version. But as it stands, I can emulate anything it plays on pretty much anything I already own.
I don't really need another console collecting dust that I never play.

Again, very cool looking regardless.

I think it's pretty cool.

Having a system that allows you to play retail 32X games definitely has a place as the original HW is something that's not particularly robust.

Also, as mentioned, this system with an ED pro/Mega SD will give you a setup that plays MD, Sega CD and 32X, which is the full combo.

Would like to see it playing 32X games, as well as Genesis games. Also wonder if it would play games like Corpse Killer 32X on the ED Pro, which would be cool.

The Everdrive Pro's fpga might not function as a Sega CD while in this hardware. It might not even function well at all, because it is an fpga clone and we don't know how accurate it is.

I really hate that people are going to be tearing apart perfectly good 32X units to make this thing. They should have just stuck an FPGA into it instead.

I'm glad it's finally here.

Too bad we can't send it back in time so the 32X doesn't get made.

What's the use case?

Neptune mods and cases have been out for a bit now. The most current one uses a completely new circuit board that you put the CPU from a model 2 genesis and a 32x on. It's mostly a novelty thing born from Sega's advertised Neptune in the 90's that would have had a 32x built into a genesis. I think it's fine for people to mod their own hardware for this. Not sure I feel about someone cannibalizing a bunch of 32x's to make these.

Really cool idea and does my heart good to see the Neptune finally rectified like this, but yeah I don't really see a point in buying it. Especially how expensive these boutique FPGA systems end up being. Are there even any 32X games worth playing aside from Kolibri and that Spider Man game?
