Sort of. It's a survival game with plenty of platforming elements to it. You need to scavenge for food and weapons to defend yourself from creatures twice your size. It's challenging at first, but also really satisfying when you start to figure out the mechanics and strategies of the game

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth (2024)

Managed to get the orb by releasing multiple green blocks while still in the air when jumping, there's one more reminiscent orb (not sure the location yet). I also managed to catch the hidden treasure in this area. So, the next steps are unlocking 3 more rooms in the map and getting the last orb (for 100%), then heading up to Sea Monk Shrine to exchange items and clear the area as well. Such a GREAT sense of exploration in this game and the puzzles are top tier, although not very demanding. Can't get enough of this port, fr... 10/10.

Hidden room featuring dat lil fella in the top-right, I'm yet to discover in which ways he's going to be important for this 100% run... Not many hints at all currently. That's the same area mentioned before (Shrine of Sea Monk, a long beaten boss), but to get access to the room you gotta do some shenanigans to unlock an alternate path going through an outer area known as the "Stone Cellar" (which is a thing in itself and practically unexplored, I'm possibly postponing the whole area). I've 50% of all orbs in Sea Monk Shrine collected, I expected better performance but many of em were placed in hard to reach spots... I guess it's all part of the game's general proposed riddle (speaking of design), the work-around just haven't clicked yet to me to manage it.

I've yet to beat 2 bosses to clear the game any% (no ss, sadly), if I'm reading the map correctly. Bosses lawns are displayed in the map, tho I've been just by one boss/gem til finally opening the main gate in the overworld. Already unlocked all power-ups too, still gotta grab some other assisting items!

Fast-paced, still, considering it is a blind 1st playthrough of mine. Coming and going at intervals, but sure doing it.

I've been having a blast with Rebirth, just got to Costa Del Sol, I've been humming the theme nonstop as I played.

Game is really good at making me love Nanaki much, much more then I did in the original.

I love Barret so, so much. Probably my favourite FFVII character by far.

I plan to go back to the original and play it again after my time in Rebirth is concluded.
Emulate it through Duckstation and try to make the experience as vintage as possible.
