The ROG Xbox Ally situation

I would take a steam deck over a windows handheld any day. I've seen videos of a steam deck giving better frame rates better than a handheld with windows on it. It's too bloated. And steam OS on linux has improved a lot. If there is a steam deck 2 coming out I would wait on it if you're looking for a handheld. But the new steam machine that looks like a gamecube will force these game consoles to lower their costs to compete.

Steam Deck is great, I have had one since launch, but Steam Deck 2 isn't happening until there is a much better processor option that meets it's power requirements. Probably not until 2027, or if you pay attention to the bigger picture, until FEX can allow them to move it over to ARM like the computer that is in the Steam Frame.

The more Valve speaks about it, the more likely it seems that Steam Machine is going to launch around $700-$800. Nobody is going to lower costs to compete. Costs will go up across the board.

Ram has skyrocketed in price in just a week. New ram production is being allocated and swallowed up by AI companies. Phones, game consoles, all electronics are going to skyrocket in price. Rushing to buy things will also lead to higher demand and higher prices.

The literal only thing keeping me on Windows is the whole anticheat situation with Skate and 2XKO, on my main PC VR still needs Windows. I'm hoping that the Steam Machine makes devs take Linux more seriously to figure out their anticheat to support it.
