ROG Xbox Ally - Experience seamless PC gaming on the go. Powered by an ultra-efficient AMD Ryzen™ Z2 A processor, 16GB Memory and 516GB Storage, the ROG Xbox Ally is ready to game for longer. Peak efficiency at low wattages paired with a 60Wh battery gives youincredible battery efficiency.

ROG Xbox Ally X -The best of ASUS and Xbox together in one handheld. Powered by the all-new AMD Ryzen™ AI Z2 Extreme processor with 24GB Memory, 1TB Storge and 80 WHR battery, the ROG Xbox Ally X can play AAA games for hours, with plenty of user-upgradeable storage for your library. Impulse triggers allow each trigger to relate haptic vibrations independently for next-level immersion.

Even though the original ROG Ally has been on the market for a few years now, this collaboration with Xbox is MONUMENTAL exposure for the brand. Normies will think Microsoft made it. This is the edge they needed to compete with the Steam Deck.

Is it bad that I see this news and the first thing that popped into my mind is: Can I install SteamOS on it?

It’ll only be bad if you still think that 3 years after its release.

I'll be grabbing the x model come Christmas. Honestly, I was already looking at the Ally X for Christmas, so it's nice to see that made a hardware refresh. I'm glad it still can boot into desktop mode; My main motivation for getting one of these things is to run obscure Japanese games on it (Mainly replaying Rance, certain old fighters and finishing Kagetsu Tohya), so I think I'll still need that desktop to get that done.

Why what happens in 3 years? I cant imagine that the Microsoft software environment will be better 3 years from now, let alone better than the SteamOS environment.

I can't help but think that looks heavy to grapple with o_o
When I saw the video the other day I was intrigued since I've been playing XBox One games almost daily since I bought one in March. ( I still can't believe an Xbox One S was in brand new condition and no one bought it lol )

I do kinda wonder if them releasing this means they'll have more backwards compatible games came out too ... I'd like that to happen ! Be able get more titles from the original and Xbox 360 games being played on that

No Xcrap for me, XBOX is the Boss, needs be online, pay to play subs, weekly OS Antipiracy updates, games updates downloads more than actually to play the game.
Expensive X games/PC ports, thus Limited choices, no cheats, no retro, no tweaking, no modding and no hacking.
What retrad sucker are u then wben more versatiler steamdesk and pc handheld clones are everywhere.
Too big devices to be 'portable'.
Why so big?, might play aswell on laptops or make like GPD ones.
Only 1 - 2 hrs playtime when max out settings,

Does this mean that Vert will get a sister?

Embarrassingly, I do.

Can this thing do all the emulatoring like the Steam Deck? Price will be what matters most. Because if it costs more than the Steamdeck OLED, then why even bother at all?

Yay another console to make you even more poor. In all honesty it´s nice to see the rog ally xbox but I wonder if they will even sell much seeing as half the gaming world blew their load on Switch 2.

I will stick to PC gaming maybe get a steam deck if a win a million on scratch tickets.

This is a skin on the Ally that'll include a custom interface which will roll out for general Windows handhelds later anyway. Don't bother waiting for the Xbox branding if you want one of these, just get an original one directly from ASUS.

Uffff... this is ass. And people knew it:

Like a worse version of the SteamDeck from I have read: The Steamdeck just let you do whatever you want with it. Even install windows, we will need to see how ROG manages this "freedom", so maybe im wrong.

And people where expeting the "portable" Xbox, it is sad to use a PSP, a Gameboy or a Vita and see how those devices where meant to fit in your pocket. Todays "portability" actually mean "yeah, you can use it on your coach".

Sad

I just meant if it’s Xbox game lineup isn’t worth its purchase by then 😅

Still I think it’s a bit better than if Microsoft made their own system, if a wholly Xbox system didn’t do well Microsoft would just die it down, but with this partnership ROG would really want it to work too, but we’ll see what an Xbox brand gives it I guess.

I tend to agree, it was a smart move by Microsoft to leverage ASUS to sell the brand. Its funny that they ended up late to the punch. Valve got ahead of them with the Lenovo Legion Go S.

Not for me. I'm done with the Xbox ecosystem after the Series X. I've been with them since the launch of the Xbox in 2001 but it's pointless now since they're a third party publisher. Now I'll only have to buy 2 consoles instead of 3. Also, it blows my mind that Valve can make their own handheld but Microsoft can't. It seems like Xbox is just an afterthought at this point.

I believe it will be the Penultimate handheld if you can install Steam OS on it. But for the price...I mean the original X is already close to a goddamn grand. So I'm curious to see where they price this one since I always here how out of the three, Xbox is more consumer friendly nowadays.

It'll be standard ASUS prices, XBOX OS/branding is just the skin/platform overlay, pricing will only goes up and not down.
Maybe later you can buy/install this XBOX OS platform, like XBOX gamepass/STEAM on PC / handhelds.

As it turns out this is brand new hardware as well, with the base model potentially being as powerful as the current Ally X. We'll have to see about that price though, it's definitely going to be extremely high and really not worth it just to give Microsoft money as you likely won't need something this extreme when on the go.

That's pretty interesting. Well, I'm not a big fan of Microsoft either, but I am 99% certain some of my older rougelikes/japanese software will only work on microsoft.

Either way, when it drops I'll grab it and dualboot it with Steamos, and everything will be peachy. I'm pretty interested in the debloated os they keep talking about.
