The Playstation 3

Honestly, the thing with the PS3 is that most of the games you can get on PC anymore, and with mods and the like, they look and run better by leaps and bounds. Something along the lines of four or five hundred of the PS3 games in the library have PC ports or releases, according to Google anyway. The number may be larger or smaller.

I’m not sure, nor do I care enough to look into it further.

The point is that the PS3, as good as it was at the time, is just another meh console that had a few good games. That trend is more or less the same with the PS4, PS5, and consoles of the same generations to date.

Apart from the fact that a lot of even cheap 5 year old PC can emulate the thing better. I know not all games run via emulation.

Metal Gear Solid 4 definitely runs a lot better thanks to emulation. You can tell while playing on original hardware it tries to reach 60FPS like when you sneak around a corner, but the moment you look at a large area the FPS goes down. Thankfully it doesn't seem to dip below 30 but it can be distracting.

Every system needs a killer p or series new to the console. Nintendo mostly just adds skins to older existing games and calls it a day. Except it seems this generation Mario kart seems new with the online etc. mostly Wii just had the Mario kart pumpkin etc all games already done on gamecube and Wii it didn't have a new series like ps3 had so many of new to the console and really exclusive to it. Besides Uncharted another example is the Rachet nd Clank games on it. Good for all ages and very visually impressive mores than anything I've seen on the Wii despite that console being more powerful sure ps2 versions existed but the racket son ps3 are just so far ahead in terms of graphics.

Also imagine if say Skyrim only came out on WiiU. it would have been. system seller or killer ap but Nintendo doesn't make such games really besides the Zeldas on switch and maybe xenoblade but the Wii version had worse reviews if I recall right

speaking of which how good is the Wii xenoblade chronicles?

im thinking of modding my Wii as I still play my ps3 for online play and they update it sometimes.

do you really think the wii u is more niche than consoles like the virtual boy or atari jaguar?
while the wii u was generally unpopular i think it was more understood and more actively purchased than consoles such as the great big onezors previously mentioned
Oh, not more so than the Jag or VB, sure, but I always felt the WiiU survived basically because people loved the Wii and wanted the successor to succeed. Neither the VB not Jag ever had a real shot (Atari should have released the Panther instead).

No Sony franchise can compete to the likes of Mario Kart and Smash Brothers, if those couldn't save the Wii U then that's it. What are we even talking about here?????

My PS3 has been receiving a lot of love recently, because I've just re-modded it in the last month.
I've mainly been playing games I missed out on, either because I never saw them in stores or just wasn't interested in the series at the time.

I've also been loading it up with a ton of injected PS2 games. I know it would be easier to just emulate the PS2 on PC, but something just feels so right about using a PS3 controller while playing PS2 games.

To be perfectly fair when I saw the Wii U, I honestly thought it was some add-on for the Wii, and I remember a few people thinking the same. Bad marketing honestly on Nintendo's part, but they have a habit of doing that or did anyway.

N64 = Bank.
64DD = well, we aren't fondly remembering and having nostalgic chats about the great library the 64DD had, now are we?

All very fair points, yes. The naming convention caused a lot of confusion for the WiiU. I guess there's a reason the Switch 2 isn't called SwitchU.

the thing that is awesome with the ps3 still is the online gaming is free. not sure how online gaming was on the Wii as it hardly had any online games if I recall and I dont own any as I never got platoon or Mario kart for it.

cn you still play online on the WiiU like you on on the ps3?

Sony's Gran Turismo would like to have a word with you.
GT is far more fun than Mario Kart. Well, it is if you're over 13, anyhow.
"Fun", while being subjective, doesn't really have anything to do with what game could be better.

I mean you compare a party, arcade orientated, karting game to a sim racing game.

Also why are you implying that after 13 you're not supposed to enjoy MK? Or that there couldn't be kids under 13 that played GT back on the PSX back then.

They're both about driving cars but that's where the comparison stops.

I agree. GT opened my eyes to how much more fulfilling simcade racers feel to play.
I don't know what "fulfilling" actually means there but I don't really see why a simcade racing game should be intrinsically better than one that isn't.

Arcade racers feel shallow to me, that's all. They are fun for what they are, but simcade demands more from you than simply throwing items around and pushing people out of your way. It's fulfilling because winning is more meaningful this way. To each their own.

Yes, it's subjective. Like an opinion, my opinion is that GT is more fun. yours may be MK, and that's fine.

So what? I was only comparing a Sony racing franchise to a Nintendo racing franchise, and Mario Kart happens to be the one mentioned originally on Nintendo's side. Then, if you don't like me using GT, substitute Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled since it's a Sony franchise

I wasn't, but a 13 or below kid is going to enjoy Mario Kart more than an adult. And no, I'm not saying adults can't or don't like Mario Kart. But a lot of people over the age of 13 like a more realistic racing game.

The original quote was "No Sony franchise can compete to the likes of Mario Kart"

I was making a joke about Mario Kart pure and simple, that yes a Sony racing franchise can and does compete with Mario Kart. I'm sorry if you are a Fantendo kid, and this hurt your feelings
