As in them at their absolute best. For instance I feel Ziggy Stardust is Bowie at his and Great Gig in the Sky is Wright at his best. It would be when all the experience, skill, talent all culminated into something exceptional in your opinion.

I think Avril Lavigne just crushed it with "Girlfriend" -- it was still very much her "skatepunk princess" stuff, but elevated to a new height through the use of great instrument underlying and just a sure-footed direction. The backstory for it is amazing, too... Team had just wrapped up recording another song and the inspiration hit so hard that they had the opening lines down in ten minutes.

There's also "Luka", by Suzanne Vega... VERY FEW artists can deliver such devastation so softly, and the whole thing just shines as a result.

And then there's "La Mano De Díos" by Rodrigo -- that's peak fanboyism turned into art.
