In the interest of giving this great series a proper discussion space (and also cleaning up a previous thread that is unrelated, sorry for the unintentional hijack), I'm opening up this thread. I'll move parts of the previous discussion here momentarily, leaving a redirect for those that wish to continue it.

Never played it, but always wanted to — it's apparently the best thing on N64.

I have heard a joke (?) saying that the devs intentionally named the games after Queen songs, which I think is really neat.

That's true, yes. That said, the names also hold plot significance, it's not a fan flex (the Black Queen is a character in the overall plot).

I only played March of the Black Queen, Let Us Cling Together and Knight of Lodis. I'd rather play LUCT than FFT WOTL for gameplay mechanics alone.
I haven't played Reborn, but LUCT: One Vision is being worked on for over a decade, they must be doing something right.

Edit: Well, I goofed. My opening post got buried, oh well.

yes its all named after Queen songs

The only one I played is Tactics Ogre: Reborn.

I liked it, but as a FFTactics veteran I was a bit disappointed by the lack of abilities/spells/whatever. Its more like variations on Attack, and then the weapon abilities.

Not a criticism, the game is good and I can see the branching storylines and such being awesome to deep dive into. But it just wasn't quite what I was looking for at the time.

Honestly I need to replay it some time because there was a lot I really liked.

I confess that I haven't played this series. But, I do have the ROMS, and I got the remake of LUCT on my backlog. When I do play this series, I'm going in chronological order, so Knight of Lodis (GBA) will be first.

Prince of Zenobia has a "translation", but it's glitched tf out and makes the game unplayable. Gonna need a Youtube synopsis video for that one.

yeah thats what i said. what is the chronology for the other games and what episode is every game though?
My understanding of the ordering is this: Ogre Battle - > Prince of Zenobia ->Ogre Battle 64 -> Knight of Lodis -> Tactics Ogre.

This is the chronology:

Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis, followed by Ogre Battle Gaiden: Prince of Zenobia, then Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen, Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber, and finally Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (Reborn)

I know some of the other games in the series were technically better, but I was VERY grateful to have a game like Person of Lordly Caliber on my N64.

Note that there are spoilers here; this is the story from the start, although there are holes thanks to Enix (later Square Enix) not detailing every point enough.

OB64 is a masterpiece, don't sell it short!

Reborn has nowhere the depth the PSP version has, you should try that instead (especially the One VIsion hack with has over a decade of balancing hindsight behind it.)

thanks for educating me, I had no idea Knights of Lodis existed... Lans is best knight.. other than the dragon knights... and Deneb

thanks, what "episode" is each game supposed to be if march of the black queen is episode 5; then is 64 ep6 and tactics ogre ep7

i assume gaiden is a side story

whats the knight of lodis in this: ep4? ep1? ep0?

Gaidens are sidestories, yes, but still plot significant. Knight of Lodis is the furthest back in the timeline for which the in game history has records, as it details the start of Lodisism as a movement and such. It is not numbered, however.

Everything prior to KoL deals with the first Ogre Battle, for which there are no records.

For the numbered episodes: Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen is episode 5, Ogre Battle: Person of Lordly Caliber is episode 6, and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together and its variants are episode 7.

Prince of Zenobia happens concurrently with Episode 5, from the point of view of crown prince Tristam of Zenobia.

so knight of lodis is episode 4.5 basically then?

thanks RageBurner, I had no idea Knight of Lodis even existed and what the chronology even was.. I think Warren is a thru line and even mentions something when you make your character in March of the Black Queen... good good stuff

No need to thank me, the Warren Report's channel videos deserve all credit, really. I've been rewatching them, and to slightly correct some things I said before, it seems OB64 and LUCT happen concurrently, but in different regions.
