The new Shinobi game looks awesome

It looks great visually but it really doesn't feel like a Shinobi game from the gameplay they've shown, it looks way too easy and a lot more combat focused than any of the other games, that song they used for the trailer is also pretty pure EDM cancer i hope the rest of the OST isn't like that.

Looks like Ninja Gaiden Ragebound has some competition. Sizing up to be a good year for ninja game fans like myself.

It's quite impressive for sure, and since SoR4 they really proved themselves (Lizardcube).
I didn't catch that, even better. SoR4 wasn't just a return to form for beat 'em ups, it was probably the best game of the genre ever made.

It truly looks amazing, can't tell how that caught me offguard when they announced it for the first time, some of it kinda makes me think that it won't be 100% sidescroller like the old ones, might have a bit of a metroidvania twist to it

Now I wish Sega would let them handle Shining Force and give us a true sequel.
Maybe, considering Sega now knows that if you give a game development time it'll have a better chance of being good. (I wish I was making it up, that was what Sega took away from the recent Successful Sonic gmae)

Maybe a Smaller dev could request to do it.

SoR 4 is also arguably easier than the original, that's how it goes I think.

As for combat focused well Shinobi have been action games. I don't mind the focus on combat as long as it's an arcade experience.

The issue is that making a turn based Tactical RPG is risky.

Also LC makes good action game but we never saw a RPG.

I feel that it's plausible to see a TRPG mechanic akin to Sakura Wars and Valkyria.

While that's not untrue, Triangle Strategy, Unicorn Overlord and the Tactics Ogre revival are all seen in a mostly very positive light, so there is certainly room for success, especially for a franchise arguably more venerable than any of the above.

I'd settle for a Shining collection with updated visuals by a team that's actually dope and not the Forever Entertainment crew that did Panzer Dragoon or House of the Dead.

And yea base difficulty Streets 4 is easier but on the harder difficulties it totally eclipses the other games imo. Shinobi will likely be the same.

I wonder if it's the same Forever Entertainment is handling the Front Mission remakes? I personally thought the FM remakes are excellent.

Yeah it's the same publisher. I thought they were the dev, but ig the developer is Megapixel Studios. They worked on Panzer Dragoon, House of the Dead and the Front Mission games. Not sure why the Sega projects were so bad but the Square Enix ones were so great. Maybe SE had higher standards? Looking into it a bit there was a second studio named Storm Trident that also helped on the Front Mission games, so maybe that extra manpower helped them a ton.

Either way, hopefully they've just improved a lot since Panzer and House cause I really want the eventual Panzer and House 2 remakes to be waaay better than the originals.

Looks like same generic handdrawn gfx boring mobile phone games.
All flash and no innovation skills.

I'm happy for all the beat-em-up fans. I'm probably never gonna get this game though.

What I liked about Shinobi 2 and 3 was that enemies died super fast, generally one hit outside of mini-bosses/bosses, and they also had some platforming. It's a game you can go pretty dang fast through, and get a good flow in.

Which imo is the exact opposite of what a beat-em-up does. Where most enemies take multiple combos to defeat, and you're just kinda going left, fight group before being allowed to go left some more.

When a video game has pixel art people complain that it's "lazy" when it's hand drawn "it's like a Flash/Mobile phone game".

Innovation does not mean a game will be good.

And honestly do we really need to make Shinobi different from the winning formula?

Yeah as excited as I am, I'm definitely a bit sad that the focus is more on combat rather than precision action platforming with low hp enemies. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll have/add some alternate mode where they die in one or two hits and the enemy layouts are changed accordingly

^ Astral Ascent is the one you're talking about.
